I left the install to run for more than 2 hours and it never completed. I had to stop/abort the attempted install it by usb Bootable. I make Bootable of .

I had the exact same frustrating BIOS update loop on my HP 15-bs series laptop a couple years back—downloaded F.75 from the official site, installation started fine but hung forever (even after 2+ hours), forcing an abort via USB bootable, and then black screen with no wakeup on power button. Tried older versions like F.35/F.36 too, same result. It's a common Insyde BIOS glitch on these models where the flash process gets interrupted by power fluctuations or corrupted temp files, leaving the firmware in a half-baked state that bricks the display/boot.

Don't worry—it's recoverable without a service center (though if under warranty, contact HP chat with your serial for a free USB recovery tool). Here's the step-by-step fix that worked 100% for me and tons of others on HP forums (back up data first if you can access it via external boot):

  1. Hard Reset to Clear Residual Power: Unplug the AC adapter, remove the battery (if removable—on bs179tx, slide the latch under the laptop to pop it out). Hold the power button for 60 seconds (this drains the CMOS and resets the embedded controller). Reinsert battery + plug in charger. Try powering on—if black screen persists, proceed.
  2. Create Proper BIOS Crisis Recovery USB:
    • Grab a USB drive (4GB+ , empty). Format to FAT32 (right-click in File Explorer > Format > FAT32 > Quick Format).
    • Download the F.75 BIOS .exe again from support.hp.com (search "HP 15-bs179tx" > BIOS > F.75 Rev A). Extract it with 7-Zip (right-click > 7-Zip > Extract to folder).
    • Copy ONLY the extracted .bin or main BIOS file (usually spXXXXX.bin) to the USB root (not the whole folder). Rename it to "BIOSUPDREC.exe" if prompted.
    • Safely eject USB.
  3. Force BIOS Recovery Mode: Shut down (hold power 10 sec if needed). Insert USB + plug in charger (battery in). Hold Windows key + B (or Windows + V on some bs models—try both). While holding, press power button for 2-3 seconds, then release keys when HP logo/beeps start (LEDs may flash). Leave it plugged in for 15-30 minutes—even if screen stays black, it's flashing in the background. It may beep 3-5 times and restart automatically. If no change after 30 min, unplug/repeat with battery out.
  4. Post-Recovery Boot: If it powers on to BIOS screen (F10), enter setup > Load Optimized Defaults > Save & Exit. If Windows loads, run HP Support Assistant for any post-flash drivers. Test stability—avoid updates for a day.

If recovery fails 2-3 times (rare), it's likely a deeper flash corruption—grab a cheap CH341A USB programmer (~$5 on Amazon) for external BIOS chip flashing (tutorials on YouTube for HP 15-bs, but it's advanced; search "HP 15-bs BIOS chip reflash"). HP support might send a prepped USB if you call 1-800-HP-INVENT and mention the black screen + failed F.75.

What's your current BIOS version (if you can access msinfo32 via safe mode or external boot)? That'll help pinpoint if it's partial flash. Hang in there—this gets most bs179tx back to life!

Hi @Usaid_Patel

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, it’s understandable that this situation feels stressful when nothing seems to work. In many cases, the laptop needs a recovery method rather than another normal BIOS installation.

1.Hard reset first: Disconnect the power adapter and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then reconnect and try powering on.

2. BIOS recovery mode: HP laptops often have a built-in BIOS recovery feature. Try pressing Windows key + B (or V) while holding the power button for 2–3 seconds. If recovery is available, the laptop may attempt to restore the BIOS automatically.

3.Manually recover the BIOS

If you are unable to recover the last working BIOS version, install a BIOS recovery file from the HP website using a USB flash drive.
