Elitebook 820 G3
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm using HP assistant to update my BIOS. After downloading the update file, the updster asks for BIOS password, and I do not have the password. I tried like a million different "backdoor" passwords I found from google with no success. Trying to access BIOS settings at boot also requires a password, but it only lets me try three times before locking up. I receive no error messages.

I can't update my BIOS, what should I do?

Thanks.

I have the latest verison of windows 10 on this Elitebook 820 g3.

You're very welcome.

That is your only option.

HP is the only source for the smc.bin file.

We could never assist members with clearing the BIOS passwords on HP Probook or Elitebook models because we don't have the means to do so.

Furthermore, the new forum rules revised on March 1, 2019, prohibit us from providing any assistance with clearing BIOS passwords.

Please see the rules of participation at the link below, 4d.

If HP can't/won't help you, then you will need a new motherboard without a BIOS P/W to resolve the problem.

Hi:

You will have to contact HP technical support for assistance with obtaining a SMC.bin file for your PC.

Worldwide business PC phone numbers...

You can see if the phone number listed for your country is still valid to call them.

Thank you! I wonder if it will be worth the phone bill to call them 😛 but I really can't think of anything else.
