Hello! I have a problem updating my BIOS to the latest version on my HP Victus laptop. While running tests in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Center I have stumbled upon an issue with my BIOS version. Currently my BIOS version is F. 14 and the latest for my laptop shown at HP support page is F.16 Rev.A. When I try to update bios using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Center I receive 'CANCELLED' status even though I've agreed to perform an update.
Then I tried to Install the latest BIOS version from HP support page mentioned earlier, but as a result I got this error:
I have 350 GB of free space on my C: drive, so I don't get where the issue is coming from. My guess is that it tries to install BIOS on some other partition like FAT32, but increasing it's size is problematic. Is there any simpler way to get the latest BIOS version?

Hi @mxlshk,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to encounter issues with a BIOS update. Here are some steps to help you resolve this.
Check BIOS Update Method
Ensure you're using the correct method to update the BIOS. HP usually offers two methods:
- Using Windows Update Utility: Download the BIOS update executable from the HP support page and run it directly from Windows.
- Using USB Flash Drive: Create a bootable USB drive with the BIOS update and run it from the BIOS setup.
Prepare a Bootable USB Drive
If the Windows method isn't working, try using a bootable USB drive:
- Download the BIOS Update: Go to the HP support page for your laptop model and download the latest BIOS update.
- Prepare USB Drive: Format a USB drive to FAT32.
- Copy BIOS Files: Copy the downloaded BIOS file (usually an .exe or .bin file) to the USB drive.
- Enter BIOS Setup:
- Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 repeatedly during startup to enter BIOS.
- Look for an option like "Update BIOS" or "BIOS Update" and follow the prompts to select the BIOS file from the USB drive.
Check Free Disk Space
While you have 350 GB free, ensure there’s enough space on the partition where the BIOS is being updated. Sometimes, the BIOS update tool may require space on the same partition where Windows is installed.
Disable Secure Boot
In some cases, Secure Boot can prevent BIOS updates. You can disable it temporarily:
- Enter BIOS Setup (restart and press Esc or F10).
- Navigate to the Boot or Security tab.
- Find Secure Boot and set it to Disabled.
Run BIOS Update Utility as Administrator
Ensure you run the BIOS update executable as an administrator:
- Right-click the downloaded BIOS update file.
- Select Run as administrator.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
