Hi, Keith:
HP retired support for the model series since it is more than 10 years old.
Unless you are running Windows Vista on your notebook, updating the BIOS in a newer OS almost always turns the notebook into an expensive paperweight.
You need this driver for the base system devices...
Ricoh Media Card Reader Driver
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45112.exe
This reputable 3rd party driver website has the Vista drivers for your notebook as that was all it was supported for by HP.
There are dv9700 Intel models and dv9700 AMD models.
Intel model drivers:
HP Pavilion dv9700t CTO drivers (driverscollection.com)
AMD model drivers:
HP Pavilion dv9700z CTO drivers (driverscollection.com)
All of the Vista drivers normally work on newer operating systems.
If you need further assistance with installing the drivers, please let me know.
