Hello,

So after a recent windows update, last week or two weeks ago, my laptop battery led charge indicator, however its called,  has been blinking. When the laptop is off, it blinks 5 times, of white LED,  then pause. It also does this when it turns off in sleep mode, since the laptop is programed to turn off after few hours of sleep. When I plug it in to the charger, when its off, it still blinks 5 times, and does not indicate orange for charging or white for full charge.  When I turn it on, the blinking stops, and if I plug it in to the charger, when its on, it does not blink, and it indicates  orange, for charging, or white, for full charge. This occurred after the recent update, which was kind of big because it restarted during the updates, and I wanted to know what the 5 blinks indicates. The laptop works fine, no problems with it.

I dont know if anyone had similar issues or if it has a resolution on this forum. Its my first post and time actually using it.

I should also note that the original battery was failing and I changed it back in February. I had the laptop since 2018. The new battery is working fine, I have not had any issues with it, so I did not think it would be related.

Hi, @Rave97

let's try these steps:

Disconnect the power supply and power the computer with battery power. This resets the Embedded Controller/Keyboard Controller.

  1. Unplug the AC power from the computer.

  2. Press and hold the power button for more than 12 seconds.

  3. Release the power button (after at least 12 seconds).

The computer powers on and should boot normally.

  4. Re-connect the AC power to the computer.

  5. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Also, see whether you need to reinstall your visual C runtimes and direct x from 2009 to the latest

Hi sorry it took so long to reply, I got busy. But I tried these steps, and it works when initiated, but after turning off the computer after  the restart steps, it still blinks. I followed the steps two ways: when the computer is off, I hold the power button, and the led would stop blinking, and I did steps after; The other way is, when holding the power button when on, it shuts down, but led does not blink, and then I boot it back up. But  again, in both cases, after turning it off when done using it, even after the steps, it still blinks. Sink I have not be using the computer do to being busy, I notice that the LED would stop blinking, but it would have to be off maybe between 9 to 12  hours. I think it just got tired of blinking so it stops. It does not drain the battery. Windows did do another update, thought it would fix it, but it did not.

Hi@Rave97,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing issues with the HP Notebook not booting to windows just goes to a black screen.

The BIOS can be corrupted during normal operation from a failed BIOS upgrade, or damage from a virus.

Recover the BIOS using a key press combination.

Turn off the computer. Press and hold the Windows + b keys, and continue to press those keys while you press and hold the power button for 2 to 3 seconds. Release the power button, but continue pressing the Windows + b keys.

The power light remains on, and the screen remains blank for about 40 seconds before anything is displayed. You might hear a series of beeps (usually 8 beeps). Eventually, an HP BIOS Update screen is displayed and the BIOS update begins automatically.

NOTE: If the HP BIOS Update screen is not displayed, press and release the power button, and then immediately press the Windows + b keys at the same time, repeatedly, until the computer beeps or opens the HP BIOS Update screen.

After the BIOS is recovered, a Continue Startup button is displayed and a timer counts down. Click the Continue Startup button to restart the computer immediately, or wait for the computer to restart automatically when the timer reaches zero.

If issue still persist then test the hard drive using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI to rule out other hard drive issues

  1. Start or restart the computer.
  2. Press F2 repeatedly during start up to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility.
  3. Select Component Tests > Hard Drive > Quick Test.
  4. Click Run Once.

Once the test completes, results are displayed on the screen.

If the drive passes all tests, continue to restore a computer back to the factory default, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.
