Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (680A7AV)

I’m experiencing a persistent Bluetooth issue on my HP Victus 15 laptop with the following specs:

  • Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12650H @ 2.30GHz

  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti

  • OS: Windows 11 (fully updated)

  • Drivers: Have tried both Intel and MediaTek Bluetooth drivers (latest from HP support site)

The Problem:

  • Bluetooth connects to my earbuds initially but disconnects after a few minutes.
  • After disconnection, the Bluetooth toggle disappears from Settings and Quick Settings.
  • Event Viewer Shows:
    Source: BTHUSB
    Event ID: 17
Message: The local Bluetooth adapter has failed in an undetermined manner and will not be used. The driver has been unloaded.
  • Windows Troubleshooter was also unable to solve the issue and returned:
There was a problem trying to fix the unresolved error for your Bluetooth radio. (Error: 0x1)
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to solve your problem.
  • I also found USB errors like:
Device USB\VID_0000&PID_0002\… had a problem starting.
    Driver Name: usb.inf
Problem: 0x2B (Driver failed to load)

Steps I have already tried:

  • Uninstalled the Bluetooth device from the device manager itself (the one with adapter)
    • After uninstalling and rebooting the system it didn't show up in the device manager and even tried installing the drivers from the site.
    • Doing that nothing showed up under Bluetooth, and under USB controllers, "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" appeared with an yellow/orange exclamation in the icon.
    • Checking for updates in HP Support Assistant, I had got 3 or 4 updates and there was a popup saying "Mediatek Bluetooth Adapter should not be looked for as it has been removed" or something along the lines of the given statement.
  • Removing all the unknown USB Devices and rebooting repeats the same problem.

@NimAce, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand how frustrating it can be when Bluetooth connectivity fails intermittently and then disappears entirely. Based on your detailed description and the Event Viewer logs (Event ID 17, BTHUSB), this appears to be a driver or hardware-level conflict, possibly involving the MediaTek Bluetooth module.

Here are step-by-step solutions to help resolve the issue:

Perform a Hard Reset

This clears residual power and resets hardware connections.

  1. Shut down the laptop.
  2. Unplug the power adapter.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power and boot the system.

Clean Up Device Manager

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Click View > Show hidden devices.
  3. Expand Bluetooth and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  4. Right-click and uninstall:
    • Any grayed-out Bluetooth devices.
    • Any “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)” entries.
    • Check under System Devices for any MediaTek-related entries and uninstall them too.
  5. Reboot the system.

Reinstall Correct Bluetooth Driver

HP Support Assistant may have removed the MediaTek driver due to compatibility issues. Instead, try the Intel Bluetooth driver (if your system supports it):

If you're unsure whether your system uses Intel or MediaTek, check under Device Manager > Network Adapters for the Wi-Fi chipset brand.

Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

Outdated firmware can cause USB and Bluetooth instability. Official HP® Support

  • Download Latest BIOS for HP Victus 15-fa0000
  • Download Intel Chipset Driver

Install these updates, then reboot.

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Power it on and immediately press Esc, then F2.
  3. Run the Component Tests > Bluetooth and USB tests.

This will help identify if the issue is hardware-related.

Optional: Reset Windows Bluetooth Stack

If the issue persists:

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  2. Run the following commands:

These commands repair system files and the Bluetooth stack.

  • If the HP Support Assistant shows a message like “MediaTek Bluetooth Adapter should not be looked for as it has been removed”, it may indicate a hardware deactivation or driver deprecation.
  • If the issue continues after all steps, we suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.

Dear @Max3Aj,

Thank you for your detailed response and suggested steps to resolve the Bluetooth issue on my HP Victus 15 laptop. I have followed all the provided troubleshooting steps, including performing a hard reset, cleaning up Device Manager, reinstalling the Intel Bluetooth driver (as the MediaTek driver was flagged as removed by HP Support Assistant), and checking for BIOS and chipset driver updates (BIOS was already up to date). Unfortunately, the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics did not offer a Component Test option for Bluetooth or USB, and the commands for resetting the Windows Bluetooth stack were not provided in your response.

The issue persists with the following behavior:

  • Bluetooth connects to my earbuds initially but disconnects after a few
  • The Bluetooth toggle becomes grayed out (in a processing state) and then disappears from both Settings and Quick
  • In Device Manager, the "MediaTek Bluetooth Adapter" now shows a yellow exclamation mark with the status: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)."

Could this issue be related to my earbuds? They work perfectly with my phone, so I suspect the problem lies with the laptop’s Bluetooth adapter or drivers. Could you provide the commands to reset the Windows Bluetooth stack and suggest further steps to address the Code 43 error or potential USB controller conflicts? Thank you for your continued support.

Best regards,
NimAce

Hi, I don't think is related to your earbuds, I think it's a software problem with some Windows Updates. I have similar problems with a Logitech K380 (keyboard) and 2 bluetooth mouse. Yesterday I have installed from zero with HP cloud recovery tools, all the updates from windows update, from HP support assistant and the problem is still here. At the moment I've switch to USB keyboard and mouse with USB Unifying. There is a new bluetooth driver from mediatek (in HP support assistant), but non solve the issues...

I've Windows 11 Pro, my laptop is Victus 15-FA0000 (with I7 13700H and Geforce 4060) and I think we have the same bluetooth adapter.

I'll update the post if I will find a solution.
