Recently, my Pavilion laptop started giving me a message on start up that I have a countefeit HP battery in my laptop which is untrue. I have the factory battery installed. I have never opened the case to the laptop.
Do I need to flash the BIOS or something to get rid of this?

Hi @SoCalTramp,
This message comes from the BIOS battery authentication check, and it can sometimes appear with an original battery after a firmware/communication glitch.
- Hard reset: shut down, unplug the charger, hold the Power button for 15 seconds, reconnect and turn on.
- Update the BIOS (via HP Support Assistant or from your model's driver page at support.hp.com).
- Test the battery: restart, press F2 repeatedly to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI > Component Tests > Battery.
- If the test fails or the message returns, contact HP with the diagnostic result: https://support.hp.com/contact-hp (warranty: https://support.hp.com/check-warranty)
Please share your exact model/product number so we can point you to the correct BIOS.
