Recently, my Pavilion laptop started giving me a message on start up that I have a countefeit HP battery in my laptop which is untrue.  I have the factory battery installed.  I have never opened the case to the laptop.

Do I need to flash the BIOS or something to get rid of this?

Hi @SoCalTramp,

This message comes from the BIOS battery authentication check, and it can sometimes appear with an original battery after a firmware/communication glitch.

  1. Hard reset: shut down, unplug the charger, hold the Power button for 15 seconds, reconnect and turn on.
  2. Update the BIOS (via HP Support Assistant or from your model's driver page at support.hp.com).
  3. Test the battery: restart, press F2 repeatedly to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI > Component Tests > Battery.
  4. If the test fails or the message returns, contact HP with the diagnostic result: https://support.hp.com/contact-hp (warranty: https://support.hp.com/check-warranty)

Please share your exact model/product number so we can point you to the correct BIOS.
