I have this same broken hinge on my G7.
I have been told my a moderator that HP will contact me, but that has been a month ago and no one has contacted me yet.
I think these moderators post this to appear to be helping, but nothing happens.

Hi @notagain1 ,
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publically post ( serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

George

A: One solution...
I purchased new hinges and bottom case from ebay. I have a friend who is more comfortable than I at tearing apart laptop computers do the work for me. If your comfortable to do it yourself you can. The hinges I bought cost $12 and the bottom case was right around $100.
This fix allowed my to never had my computer over to a stranger.

Yet another left hinge failure here in a Pavillion G7. It's trying to pull the body away from the computer. OBVIOUSLY this is a defective part. The lack of support of your products is disheartening to say the least.
I was quoted $250 (I think) to fix the part by someone I could not even understand or who could barely understand me. Is there anyone in the UNITED STATES that can contact me regarding this who speaks English?

I also have a broken left hinge on my HP Pavilion 17.3 which I purchased a little over a year ago. It cracks and pops when I open it and creates a big separation in the bottom part of the laptop. Based on all the other similar problems, this should be fixed by HP in my opinion.

I have this same problem. It has been a problem with these laptops for over 2 years. Why will HP not offer a solution other than paying more money for a poorly designed laptop????. I will never buy another one of these things ever, ever again. I've owned DELL,IBM, lenovo and earlier HPs and this has to be the worst bit of case design I've ever seen.
