HP Notebook 15-da1005dx
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi!

So a few weeks ago, I noticed that my battery on my HP Notebook 15-da1005dx did'nt fully charge overnight.  It wasn't too major until last week when it dropped from 90% to 65% overnight and only charged to 70% max.   Everyday since then the battery dies more at night and only charges so much during the day.  This morning, I turned it on and it was at about 32% which is the lowest it's gotten.  It is currently at 48%.   This computer is my work laptop so I would prefer if it doesn't go out on me during the day.

I did run a battery check and it says "Primary Battery: Calibrate (20)".  I looked at how to calibrate a battery but how am I supposed to continue the process if my laptop can barely charge?  Any suggestions would be appreciated

Hi @cneumann16,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To calibrate the battery on an HP Notebook 15, you can follow the steps below.

  • Plug in your HP Notebook 15 and allow it to charge fully until the battery reaches 100%. Keep the notebook connected to the power source throughout the calibration process.
  • Once the battery is fully charged, disconnect the power adapter and use your notebook normally. Use it until the battery level drops to around 5% or until you receive a low battery warning.
  • Now, save any important work you have open and close all applications. It's essential to ensure that your notebook doesn't shut down unexpectedly during the calibration process.
  • Let your HP Notebook 15 remain powered off for at least five hours. This period of rest allows the battery to discharge completely.
  • After the five-hour period, connect your notebook to the power adapter and allow it to charge without turning it on. Leave it connected to the power source for at least two hours or until the battery reaches 100%.
  • Once the battery is fully charged, you can power on your HP Notebook 15 and resume using it normally.

By following these steps, you can calibrate the battery of your HP Notebook 15. This process helps the notebook accurately measure and report the battery level, optimizing its performance and improving battery life estimation. Remember that it's a good practice to calibrate your battery every few months to maintain its health and accuracy.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
