Hi @KP003,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue with your HP ENVY 17 camera.
- Restart your computer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve hardware issues.
- Check camera privacy settings: Ensure that the camera is not disabled in the privacy settings of your computer. Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera and make sure the camera access is turned on.
- Update device drivers: Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause issues with hardware devices. Go to Device Manager, find your camera under Imaging devices, right-click on it, and select Update driver. You can also visit the HP support website to download and install the latest drivers for your camera.
- Check for Windows updates: Sometimes, Windows updates include fixes for hardware issues. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for any available updates.
- Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter: Windows has built-in troubleshooters that can help identify and fix hardware issues. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot, then select Hardware and Devices and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Check for third-party software conflicts: Some third-party software, such as antivirus programs, can interfere with the camera's functionality. Temporarily disable or uninstall any recently installed software to see if it resolves the issue.
- Reset the camera app: If you're using the default camera app, you can try resetting it. Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features, find the camera app, click on it, and select Advanced options. Then click on Reset.
- Check for physical damage: Ensure there's no physical damage to the camera or its connection to the computer. If you're using an external webcam, try disconnecting and reconnecting it or using a different USB port.
- Perform a system restore: If the issue started after a recent software change or update, you can try restoring your computer to a previous state when the camera was working fine. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection, then click on System Restore and follow the prompts.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with the camera itself,
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
