Okay, hopefully this actually works. I have lost any small amount of respect HP has ever had in my life.

Nightmare company.

My laptop has a Reprogrammable Key. I have done anything you can think to do to get it working.

If you tell me to do something, I've done it. All except for finding the DRIVER that enables it. I have tried a few that I have scraped online. None worked. Enabled WMIC. Checked Registry. Checked Services.

Give me the driver. please. apparently to get help for the product you bought, you have to give HP $17.

ripoff artists. Driver. Please

Hi, @VikramTheGreat! Thanks for replying. I have tried multiple drivers, the most recent being SoftPaq NUMBER: sp153164
EFFECTIVE DATE: 05/28/2024. I have installed CASL, enabled and toggled multiple services, even tried PowerTools (but the key isn't registered at all).

Any assistance is appreciated. I bought this laptop thinking I could use that button, as I need accessibility options for a physical disability.

Hi @milkexkinerad,

Thank you for sharing the Pc model. I was trying to find the details, but your Keyboard doesn't have any re-programmable keys, and this function is only available on gaming pc like Omen, where the keys can be re-programmed for gaming purposes.

Could you share the image of the particular key you are talking about so I can try to find more help?

Keep me posted

Regards

Check the F11 key in this photo. I just googled the laptop and it's in every photo. The logo is the HP reprogrammable key logo unless they've changed it recently.

Hi @milkexkinerad,

Thank you for sharing the images. Here are the functions of the icons on your HP Omni PC keyboard:

F1 – Switch display modes (e.g., duplicate or extend screen)
F2 – Open emoji keyboard
F3 – Decrease screen brightness
F4 – Increase screen brightness
F5 – Toggle keyboard backlight
F6 – Mute/unmute audio
F7 – Decrease volume
F8 – Increase volume
F9 – Mute/unmute microphone
F10 – Play/pause media
F11 – Next track / fast forward
F12 – Switch between open apps/windows

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Respectfully, no it absolutely isn't media controls. Firstly, no sane product developer would add only a "next track/FF button". It does not control any media, it isn't re-bindable like every other Function key is. on a hardware-level it is a reprogrammable key.

Secondly, F12 is Screenshot. It does the same thing as Fn + Shift (PRT SC). Not "switching apps"

The info you're pulling from is incorrect. The logo on that key IS the HP Reprogrammable Key software logo. I see it right here and all over the internet.

It appears you work for HP. Kindly reach out to a T3 tech support individual or any software technician and they may actually be able to give us the info we need.

Hi @milkexkinerad,

Thank you for getting back, and my sincere apologies for the earlier incorrect information. I understand how that may have caused some confusion, especially as the user guide seemed to indicate otherwise. I'm truly sorry for the trouble.

I looked into it further and found the correct solution:

You’ll need to download the HP Programmable Key application from the Microsoft Store. It’s a free tool, and once installed, it will allow you to access and customize the programmable key functionality on your device. You can set up to 16 different tasks using this tool.

Please go ahead and download the app. Try it and let us know

Take care and have an amazing day!

Are you using chatgpt or something? Please refer to my initial message. I am so so so far beyond installing the app from the microsoft store it's insulting.

I am looking for the driver for the key that is on my laptop. I have, I will re-state, installed apps of various versions, checked and installed any services such as CASL, and done regedit searching. There is no drive on my machine for this button but they do exist out there, as I have tried installing older versions which sadly do not work on this machine.

This is getting weird. If you continue giving me incorrect and redundant information, I ask that you please get me into contact with someone who actually knows this stuff.

Thank you very much, this has been a gigantic waste of my time to get a feature sold on this laptop. Which I do need for a physical disability accessibility feature

Hi @milkexkinerad,

I understand your frustration, and I assure you this is not an AI chatbot conversation. I’m here to assist you. I also appreciate you clarifying the troubleshooting you’ve already done.

Regarding the HP Reprogrammable Key: there is no separate, downloadable, standalone driver for this key. Its functionality is handled through the HP software package itself. When the correct HP application (such as HP Hotkey Support or HP Programmable Key) is installed, it automatically detects the supported hardware and installs the required driver components in the background.

If your current version is not detecting the key, it may be due to version compatibility with your exact model. I can check whether there is a newer or model-specific version available for your device, but I will need your PC’s serial number to confirm.

Please send me a private message with:

  1. Your PC serial number
  2. Your current operating system version

Once I have these details, I can review the exact driver and software package, if any are available, that applies to your model and guide you further.

Here is the link to find the product Serial number: - Click here

To access your private messages, simply click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Support Community profile, next to your profile and send a private message to me with the serial number because we value your privacy.
