How do I adjust the brightness on my new HP OmniStudio X 31.5 inch computer? It won't let me on the display settings, in the windows settings, or on the keyboard. There are no changes in brightness no matter what I do.

Once the computer restarts, the brightness slider works fine. It appears to not work after the computer screen wakes up from being idle. Only solution is to restart the computer. Btw, BIOS up to date, re-installed graphics driver and it is up to date.

Actually, it seems to be a problem specifically from waking up with presence sensing, not just idleness. When presence sensing turns off and then on the screen, brightness no longer works. It seems like a bug in the presence sensing system. HP, please fix this!

Hi @spatch,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing a bug with the presence sensing feature affecting the brightness control on your HP OmniStudio X. The fact that it works after a restart and then stops working after waking up with presence sensing activated suggests it could be related to the power management or how the system interacts with the display settings when presence sensing is engaged.
Here are a few potential solutions and troubleshooting steps to consider:
Update the Presence Sensing Driver and Software
- Since this issue seems to be triggered by presence sensing, try ensuring that both the HP Presence Sensing driver and any related software are up to date. These drivers might not have been included in the graphics driver updates.
- You can find updates on the HP Support website, or check in the HP support assistant app.
Check Power Settings
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options and try adjusting settings related to the display sleep and power saving features. Make sure that the display isn't being set to an aggressive power-saving mode when presence sensing is active.
Re-enable Presence Sensing
- Go to Device Manager > Human Interface Devices and look for Intel Presence Sensing or similar devices. Disable and re-enable it to reset the system. Sometimes, simply toggling it off and on can help reset its behavior.
Use a Workaround for Adjusting Brightness
- As a temporary workaround, you could disable Presence Sensing (if it's not essential for your usage) via the Device Manager or in the BIOS settings to avoid the brightness issue.
Test with a Clean Boot
- Perform a clean boot to see if a third-party app might be interfering with the brightness or presence sensing functionality. If the issue does not occur in a clean boot environment, you can isolate the cause by enabling each startup item one by one.
Reinstall the Graphics Driver
- Even though you've reinstalled it, you could try rolling back the graphics driver or installing an older version to see if that resolves the issue. Sometimes, newer drivers can introduce unexpected bugs.
BIOS Settings Review
- If the issue persists, double-check if any settings in the BIOS related to display or power management are affecting the behavior when presence sensing is enabled. Sometimes, specific power-related settings can interfere with screen brightness.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks, Alden4.
So it also happens when I turn the presence sensing options off, but the computer screen is allowed to be turned off or the computer is allowed to go to sleep. When it wakes up, the brightness no longer works. That's even in the absence of presence sensing. There seems to be something about the computer screen turning off or the computer going to sleep and then waking up that prevents the brightness from being adjusted (in the absence of presence sensing being turned on). Any ideas? Thanks!

In fact, it even happens when only"turn my screen off after" is enabled even if "make my device sleep after" is set to never and the presence sensing settings are off. Once the screen turns off via timeout, brightness adjustment no longer works and requires a restart to get it working again. If the screen never turns off, it works fine.
Again, I am not sure it's a presence sensing or sleep issue, but a turn the screen off timeout issue that's causing the brightness adjustment glitch?
