Cannot Left or Right Click on TouchPad when typing on keyboard.

My HP Envy 13" with Ryzen 2700u APU is just over a year old. I recently updated it to the latest version of Windows 10. Unfortunately since the latest update gaming on the laptop alone (no external mouse) is now impossible due to the absolutely terrible Synaptics/HP drivers.

When typing on the keyboard the TouchPad cannot be used at all. I have searched online and usually there is a setting in the Synaptics driver to allow this, but unfortunately that setting is missing. Upon digging deeper I discovered that by performing a regedit to set all the PalmKms* to 0 in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Defaults should fix the problem and that worked in the past. With the latest Synaptics driver for the the latest version of Windows 10 however that only half solves the problem. After performing the regedit I can now move the mouse while typing, but I cannot Left or Right click. Does anyone know of an additional regedit change I can make to restore Left and Right click when using the keyboard?

I cannot go back to a previous driver as the driver from before doesn't appear to work that well with the later updates to Windows 10 and even after telling Windows 10 to no longer update drivers it appears to still do that.

I'm finding the work required to just play a game on the laptop to be absolutely ridiculous. I have bought at least 7 HP PCs in a row now and this could be my last if they are going to be so restrictive now...

Update the Bios and touchpad driver using HP Support Assistant.

Download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: Click here

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

   

2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

   

3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available.
