HP ENVY 15t-ae100 CTO - L8Y97AV
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am trying to update the BIOS on my computer to it's most recent version.  I have tried to update by going to the support page for my laptop and running the instaler from there, but when I do and it asks for a restart, the computer just boots normally and the BIOS isn't updated.

I am currently on version F.45 and the latest is F.48. I noticed there were 3 previous revisions and wanted to update them in order, but even doing that hasn't updated it.

I have also tried updating the BIOS through this support topic: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-15-ae100-notebook-pc/8499282/model/8949652/document/c00... but when I get into the UEFI Diagnostics screen, it doesn't give me the option for accessing "Firmware Management" or "BIOS Management."

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums.

I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that the BIOS update is not successful on your HP ENVY Notebook - 15t-ae100 series laptop. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps from this HP document.

Could you tell me if you're facing any issues with the notebook due to which you're attempting a BIOS update?

Have you attempted the steps mentioned in "Updating the BIOS when Windows does not start (Windows 10, 8, 7)" from the HP document?

Meanwhile, please download and run the HP Support Assistant tool. This tool will scan your laptop and should suggest a BIOS update if applicable.

Please feel free to let me know and this information will help me to assist you further.

Cheers!

Thank you for replying.  The problem I am facing when I go to update the BIOS is that it won't update.  I download the BIOS file from my laptop's support page and then run the installer.  It asks for a restart, and I do that but the BIOS version doesn't update and stays the same at F.45.

I am trying to update the BIOS incrementally, since there are 3 revisions to the BIOS since F.45.

I have also tried installing it through the steps in when "Windows 10 doesn't start," but as I stated above, in the System Diagnostics menu (pressing F2 at startup), I have no option for "Firmware Management," or "BIOS Management" as stated in those directions, so I have no way of flashing the BIOS from there.

Shellcoder,

Thank you so much for writing back to my topic.  I tried your method and was able to get the BIOS to update to F.46.  However, I cannot get it to update past that version.  It also looks like HP released a new version 49 recently for my laptop model.  I think what I will have to do is use a thumb drive and update incrementally from there.

I didn't try that automated installation process cause I had already unpacked all the BIOS update files to my flash drive. So I had to install the BIOS update from my flash drive by choosing firmware management options. Installation was a breeze and easy too. BTW you don't have to do incremental updates. I jumped from F.47 to F.49. Hope it works for you 🙂

Just wanted to thank you shellcoder for all your help.  Today, I was successful in updating to F.49 as the latest BIOS release.  I was not able to jump from F.47 to F.48 for my particular laptop model (the BIOS Diagnostics told me the firmware wasn't compatible with my system).

So instead I jumped from F.47 to F.49 using a USB flash drive along with the HP Diagnostics software.  I marked your post above as the solution.

Thanks so much!

Shellcoder, I can't thank you enough for sharing your solution to the BIOS update issue. I was going nuts trying to update the BIOS from F48 to F49; doing so was especially important because F49 version is what contained the Intel microcode for the Spectre patch for my particular Notebook.

Using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI went even faster than expected -- I had the files on a flash drive, but in the Diagnostics UEFI mode it already listed F49 as the replacement so I went with the update instead of seach and all went swimmingly.

Thanks so much! You rock!
