Chrome crashes on Elitebook 840 G8 (we have no problems on G7 models) if we allow Microsoft updates to run. Specifically KB5001330.

I have seen reports of a Chrome problem, see this.

The problem is that Chrome won't even open.
Hope they get a fix out soon. We only have two G8 in use due to the lack of hardware out but G7 will be discontinued supposedly. Since we are seeing this on G8 I see on another post with unrelated hardware doing this in Chrome:
Go to settings/advanced settings in Chrome. Disable "Use harware acceleration when available". I also disabled "Continue running background apps when chrome is closed".

Obviously Chrome is having a problem, not related to HP. Is there are reason you have to use Chrome at this time?
There is Microsoft Edge or FireFox that will get you by until Chrome gets fixed.

Companies develop for one or the other (add-ins, etc.) and we went the Chrome route years ago. Edge can kind of work but when you buy all HP products and the tens to hundreds G3-G7 models of Elitebooks we currently use seem to function fine but the two new G8 models don't; not 100% sure it is all Google.

Hi
I understand chrome crashes in Windows 10. The issue might arise due to various reasons, including system file corruption or due to user profile corruption.
As this only seems to be happening on Windows I will provide such instructions, but this will be operating system dependent:
- Ensure your Sync data is accurate at https://chrome.google.com/sync and passwords to appear at https://passwords.google.com (If you have a passphrase they will not but they should be reflected in the sync data link)
- Close any open Chrome instance
- Open File Explorer and navigate to: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data
- Delete the "Local State" file from the directory (ensure you have a backup!)
- Re-Open Chrome
If the above steps don't resolve the problem then try the following
- Open File Explorer and navigate to: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data
- Take a copy of everything in this directory and store it somewhere such as your desktop
- Rename the "User Data" folder to something other than User Data
- Re-Open Chrome
Some users have reported that after performing these steps, the Google Chrome crashes have stopped.
Others state that once you restart Google Chrome the issue occurs again.
If the issue still persists, I recommend you to follow the below link to resolve the issue.

I would love to blame Chrome and Windows 10 for the crash but there is specific hardware it is doing it on. G3-G7 there are no problems but the 2 Elitebook G8 models we have (which have 16 GB of memory each) are the only two with issues...so there has to be something hardware related. The user is going to turn off the two advanced settings today to see if it helps....background apps and hardware acceleration.

Before saying it is a HP problem, I would investigate certain things to find the differences - it is probably either a slightly different Windows version, a driver that is different (maybe because of different hardware) or a Chrome quirk.
Since there is more than one PC experiencing this that are the G8 models, it would be helpful to give cat#'s of the ones that work and the configurations of the G8's that do not work.

Here is the Model:HP EliteBook 840 G8 Notebook PC (19X36AV)
We use MDT to image every laptop and the HP Driver Pack provided. That is a standard for every laptop. WIN 10 x64 is the same version of Windows . Chrome is installed the same as the other laptops; thru MDT.

Since you are using Mass Deployment to load what you want, I still stand with my last statement "it is probably either a slightly different Windows version, a driver that is different (maybe because of different hardware) or a Chrome quirk."
Until the problem can be isolated, try one of these "problem child's" with a regular Windows install (like the Windows and drivers it came with from the factory) and then run Chrome from that OS without whatever is being added by your deployment.
You can find this by using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool, if the original installs where deleted without saving.
