I had a separate number key pad on my old computer. My new HP does not have one. I am used to typing various special characters, such as “cents,” which is did with ALT+0162. It doesn't work on my new HP using ALT + the numbers at the top of the keyboard. What do I need to do to make it work?

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Many notebooks feature a setting that allows you to use the action keys functionality without pressing the fn key each time. Use the correct steps based on your notebook type to enable or disable this functionality from here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02035108

Thanks for the suggestion, but I found nothing in the websites you recommended that addressed my problem. Did I miss something? Perhaps you could tell me the steps I need to do to make special characters work on a computer without a number keypad. With a keypad it is simple. You hold down the ALT key and put in a number for the special character. For example, ALT + 0162 produces ¢ . How do you do that without a number keypad?
