HP Spectre x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-eu0000 (7K634AV)

Device: HP Spectre x360 (2024 model)
OS: Windows 11 version 24H2
Touchpad: ELAN Precision Touchpad and HID-compliant mouse
Driver version: 41.2.1.3 (latest from HP site)

Driver date: 23-02-2024

Whenever I plug in the charger, my touchpad cursor becomes very laggy and not smooth — almost unusable. However:

  • When I unplug the charger, after a few moments, the touchpad works perfectly smooth again.

  • This issue does not affect my wireless mouse at all — it works smoothly both on battery and while plugged in.

  • The issue only affects the touchpad and only while on AC power.
  • The lag only occurs while plugged in, and only on the touchpad.
  • The wireless mouse works perfectly fine on both battery and AC power.

Any help or official response would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi @PrinceSantosh

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the issue so clearly—it’s genuinely inconvenient when something as essential as the touchpad becomes unreliable under normal usage.

Let’s work through a few targeted steps to help restore smooth performance while on AC power.

1. Update System BIOS and Firmware

Power-related touchpad lag can sometimes be resolved through firmware updates:

2. Adjust Power Settings

Windows may apply different device behaviors based on power source:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Select your active plan and click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
  • Under USB settings > USB selective suspend setting, set both On battery and Plugged in to Disabled.
  • Also check PCI Express > Link State Power Management and set it to Off.

Apply changes and restart the system.

3. Disable Touchpad Power Management

Some drivers allow the system to reduce power to the touchpad while charging:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Right-click on ELAN Precision Touchpad or HID-compliant mouse, then select Properties.
  • If available, go to the Power Management tab and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

If the tab isn’t present, this option may not be supported by the current driver.

4. Test with Minimal Load

Try booting into Safe Mode or disabling background apps temporarily:

  • Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  • Under the Boot tab, check Safe boot > Minimal, then restart.
  • Observe touchpad behavior while plugged in.

If the lag disappears, it may be linked to third-party software or background services.

5. Run HP UEFI Diagnostics

To rule out hardware inconsistencies:

  • Restart and press Esc, then F2 to launch diagnostics.
  • Run System Tests and Component Tests, especially for input devices and power.

You can also download the latest version from the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics page.

Let me know how things go after trying these steps. I’ll be here to help you dig deeper if needed.

Thanks for your reply, but my hp specter model is HP Spectre x360 Laptop 14-eu0556TU (9T8K6PA), but i don't know why HP detected  14-eu0000 (7K634AV), but i confirmed the serial number, and i tried the first solution, BIOS Update. After selecting the device and operating system, I see

BIOS Update -

  • F.14 Rev.A
  • 17.6 MB
  • May 12, 2025

But in my System, I have BIOS Info

  • AMI F.14
  • April 24, 2025

installed and followed the installation process, but after updating the BIOS, it still shows the previous version and date (F.14 Rev.A, May 12, 2025) instead of the new version

@PrinceSantosh

You are Welcome!

Thanks for the update—and great catch on the BIOS version mismatch. That’s a subtle but important detail.

Here’s what’s likely happening:

Why the BIOS Version Still Shows the Old Date

  • HP BIOS versions often reuse the same version number (e.g., F.14) but update the internal build date or firmware components.
  • Your system may already have the latest firmware, and the installer simply re-applied it without changing the visible version string.
  • The AMI F.14 (April 24) and F.14 Rev.A (May 12) may refer to the same base version with minor metadata differences.

What You Can Do Next

Since the BIOS update didn’t resolve the touchpad lag, let’s pivot to other targeted steps:

1. Try Disabling USB Selective Suspend

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced settings
  • Under USB settings, set USB selective suspend to Disabled for both battery and plugged in.

2. Check ELAN Touchpad Power Management

  • Open Device Manager
  • Expand Human Interface Devices
  • Right-click ELAN Precision Touchpad > Properties
  • If there’s a Power Management tab, uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”

3. Switch to High Performance Power Plan

  • Open Control Panel > Power Options
  • Select High Performance or Ultimate Performance (if available)

4. Run HP UEFI Diagnostics

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc, then F2
  • Run System Tests > Input Devices and Power Tests

You’ve done a great job narrowing it down—let’s keep pushing until it’s smooth on AC power too.
