HP ENVY TS 15 j120TX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

My Laptop is a touchscreen model bought 3 years ago which came with windows 8.1. The OS got upgraded to windows 10 automatically through Microsoft. Everything was fine till the Windows 10 update version 1703 on 26th may 2017. After this date whenever I start the laptop I may have to wait for about 60 secs for the password window to appear.

Is there a way out for avoding the delay as above?

Thanks

RV

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the computer was working fine?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

While I wait for the answers, I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it resolves the issue.

Then, go to Windows services (type "services" in the search box) and select the "App readiness" service > select properties> select startup type> select disable

If you continue to face the issue, I recommend you update the bios and the chipset driver from the below link and test.

Dear HP Associate,

Thanks for your e-Mail.

Few details sought thro., your e-Mail:

1. Earlier to the Windows 10 Home 64 bit update on 26-05-2017 update No. 1703, There was no delay for the password screen to appear when the Notebook is powered on. This delay happens only post the update No. 1703 of Windows 10. Otherwise the Notebook is functioning well.

2. I haven't made any software or hardware changes in this Notebook so far.

3. I tried the Troubleshooting steps before posting the problem.

I have done the "services -App readiness-properties" and selected "disable", it was in "Manual".

I updated the Bios from the link you provided. Also, I downloaded the chipset driver updates but when trying to install, it was showing as "alrady installed".

Thanks.

@ramkrish48,

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.

Disable fast boot:

Open the Start Menu and type Power Options to get to the Power menu, then click Choose what the power buttons do in the left panel. You’ll need to provide administrator permission to change the settings on this page, so click the text at the top of the screen that reads Change settings that are currently unavailable.

Now, untick Turn on fast startup (recommended) and Save Changes to disable this setting.

If you continue to face the issue, I recommend you disable all the startup programs.

Here is how it is done.

Step 1 – Right-click on an empty area on the Taskbar and select Task Manager.

Step 2 – When Task Manager comes up, click the Startup tab and look through the list of programs that are enabled to run during startup. Then to stop them from running, right-click the program and select Disable.

Let me know how it goes. Awaiting your reply!

Hi Raj,

Thanks for your email.
Can you go through my Post in hp forum?
This is regarding the HP envy TS 15 j120 Tx notebook. Every time I log in, there is a delay of 60 secs., for the password window to appear. This also happens when I sign in after sleep mode.
This happens after the Windows 10 ver. 1703 update on 26-05-2017.
I bought the laptop with Windows 8.1 preloaded & the same got auto upgraded to Windows 10 home 64 bit.

Thanks & rgds

Hi Raj1788,

Thanks for your reply.

I have a few doubts before doing recovery process.

1. The laptop was preloaded with Windows 8.1 which got automatically upgraded to Windows 10. Now I created the Recovery Image using a USB Pen drive. The image is also there in a separete Hard Disc Partition in this  laptop.

2.Do I have to take a back up of the data in "My Documents, Desktop, Downloads before the Recovery process? Will the data in the other partitions, i.e., D & E remain (will not erased) after recovery? Windows is on C Drive, Recovery Image is on F Drive.

3. There are other application software installed in the laptop. Will they get earsed during the recovery process?

I am not sure of doing the Recovery taking all the risks involved.

May be it is better to approach A HP service provider for doing the above.

Please let me know.

Thanks & regards

@ramkrish48,

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

I would like to inform you that if you perform recovery all the applications, software and data will be erased and you need to take a backup before doing the recovery on the computer.

The application and software you need to reinstall them after the recovery is complete.
