I recently had to replace the Hard Drive in my laptop. I was able to reinstall the OS (Windows 7 Home Premium, 32 bit) and MS Office applications but am now having problems with device drivers. Specifically they are:
- Ethernet Controller
- PCI Device
- SM Bus Controller
- USB Controller
- Unknown Device
On the HP website under software and drivers, after I select my OS I get the message there are no drivers available.
If I use the HP Support Assistant, it does a scan, indicates that it is updating my drivers, then comes up with a message that driver update failed.
If I "right click" on each of these drivers and have Windows try to update them automatically, I get the message that "Windows could not find driver software for your device".
Each driver says the Manufacturer is unknown.
I have tried to uninstall each then do a "Scan for hardware changes" but this does nothing either.
Any suggestions?

Hi:
Your notebook is not supported by HP for 32 bit operating systems, which is why there are no W7 32 bit drivers listed on the support page and the HP Support Assistant can't find any.
Here are the drivers you need for the following devices...
SM Bus Controller Install this driver first and restart the PC.
This package contains the Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver for supported notebook models and operating systems. This utility enables the operating system to show the correct name for the installed Intel hardware in the Microsoft Windows DeviceManager.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81001-81500/sp81164.exe
Ethernet Controller
This package provides the Realtek Local Area Network (LAN) Driverthat enables the Realtek Network Interface Card (NIC) Chip insupported notebook models that are running a supported operatingsystem.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp65001-65500/sp65083.exe
PCI Device
This package contains the driver that enables the Realtek Card Reader in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The card reader enables users to read from orwrite to supported removable storage cards, which are typically used in digital cameras, digital music players, and cellularphones.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp66501-67000/sp66654.exe
USB Controller
This package contains the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver for supported notebook models running a supported operating system.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81001-81500/sp81158.exe
There can be one of several devices that Windows labels as unknown when they need a driver.
In order for me to post the driver you need for the unknown device, please post the hardware ID for it.

Paul - many thanks for the quick response. The link to the drivers you provided solved my problems. As to the "Unknown Device", the details reference Vendor/Developer are not exactly in the same format as the other devices. Here are the specifics as to the Unknown Device:
ACPI\HPQ6007
Physical Description: \Device\00000050
It is kind of puzzling as to why HP would not provide links to drivers for a product they sold. I would think it requires very little effort to post the links.
Again, many thanks for your help. I greatly appreciate the information you provided.

You're very welcome.
Since I don't work for or represent HP, I can't say exactly why they don't have 32 bit drivers listed for your model series.
They only support the business-class desktop and notebook PCs for 32 bit operating systems, and with the newer models, they don't even do that anymore.
Everything has gone to 64 bit. Intel doesn't even develop 32 bit graphics drivers anymore.
For the ACPI\HPQ6007, you need this driver.
This package provides the HP 3D Driveguard Software (HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection) for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The HP 3D Driveguard Software protects the hard drive by parking the heads if the notebook is accidentally dropped, or is abruptly impacted by another object.

Thanks again Paul. That driver was the last one I needed to update my laptop. Glad there is someone like you around to help out. I had searched for these drivers yesterday and the only result I got was websites trying to sell me software to install in my laptop so they could scan and automatically update the drivers. Not really what I was looking for.
Thanks for all your help,
tomH

Anytime, Tom.
Glad to have been of assistance.
I take it you installed the W7 32 bit graphics driver from Intel or Windows Update?
The audio driver you can get directly from Realtek.
Accept the agreement, download and install the 1st driver on the list...
