Hi COE2k14
You are spot on.
I am really resisting the temptation. But for ur post I definitely would have done it.
Anyway update here the progress of your BIOS update repair by service center, & which BIOS ver are they goint to set finally.
I am south here at Trivandrum. So may be I will carry to service center as you suggest, when I get some time.
Incidentally I assume you are the "Muvattupuzhakaran" at Amazon forums, based on the similarity of the postings.

Hi COE2k14
I have prepared the HDD of this HP-15-BS576TX, by booting into Live Ubuntu-16.04.3 LTS (USB).
It is running smoothly, & I am able to update Ubuntu, fully using wired LAN (not WLAN).
Obviously the update has relevance only for that session, not being persistant.
I did it only for test purpose, & an initial warmup & reliability check on the total Ubuntu ecosystem on this new LapTop. I am satisfied.
So I am confidant I will be able to install Ubuntu finally without any Trouble, & hopefully install WLAN driver also, so that I need not be physically close & tied to my router.
But Some how I am allergic to Win-10.
So I am trying to install Win-7 in this, even with all the odds packed against this, based on advice from multitude forums. Even hp, in the box has put a flyer in the package that hp/microsoft does not support Win-7 OS in this.
I am also aware that for latest KabyLake CPUs (like i5-7200U this one has), intel also does not provide chipset drivers. But these are all artificial hindrances created by these corporate giants to push Win10. Not real technology hindrances.
So regarding Win-7, Only the bravest can venture into this area, in this unit.
I have already succeeded in locating & installing all chipset drivers for Win7. (infact #11 num of them).
So all the 10 or 11 odd exclamation marks in my Win7-Device Manager is gone.
Only exclamation left is Video .
The only stumbling block is Video driver. Without a proper Video driver, there is no point in working with this beauty. I hope I can get it, but I could not invest much time on this recently. I purchased it only few weeks back.
Btw I am against all bloated sized softwares including drivers, & obviously spy-hack-ware. Or rather I am a fan of lean-mean-efficent softwares, of by-gone days, & ofcourse of linux & Ubuntu.
The Windows-10 AMD 520 Video driver (sp81248) provided by hp is nearly 600 MB, you must know !!
So my solution is simple. I collect drivers from DriverPack solution site. They are the best.
Just for example, for the WLAN, when official driver by HP [sp80963] for Win-10 (which infact includes & works for Win-7 also), is of size 45 MB, the driver provided by DriverPack-Solution is only 5 MB and is also later versioned one, packaged from the manufacturer RealTek : "Realtek-7x64-E_2023.61-15.08.2017-drp.exe "
But there is a catch: This includes some adware & possibly spyware. All third party driver-packages include ad/spyware. But this one is the least, & configurable to avoid most ad/spyware. Infact they even provide an un-installer for their "Driver-Pack-Notifier" which they install along with driver. But I am paranoid, & cannot 100% depend on that. I want my system to be pristine clear. So I do the following procedure.
After installing Windows-7, & USB-3 intel drivers, I image the system & make an image-backup. It is only about 5 GB size & takes about 4 mins (from original size of ~ 25 GB). I keep it in one of the other partitions in the local HDD.
Now I install the DriverPack-Solution provided drivers, and then take a Double-Driver (dd) utility backup of the drivers, which is of only 2MB size compressed for WLAN.
Then I wipe the system (not needed) & bring back the pristine Win-7 OS, pre-driver condition from image-backup.
I may use system-restore for intermediate experimentation, but for final production system, only depend on image-backup. After that now I re-install drivers from the DD-backup of smaller sizes.
This way I can enjoy the fruits of latest & leanest drivers, & keep out of ad/spy-ware infestation.
Pls share if you had any Win7 experimentation with this box.

Hi Bhishmar,
Since I'm not much into Windows OS, I'm not really aware of the problems happening in that OS environment. But, I knew that many friends who buys computers/laptops installs Windows 7 and deletes Windows 10. Regarding Linux, I had installed Ubuntu 17.10 on the previous laptop that bricked and was functioning perfectly except for the wireless module, that is not supported.
I use Linux 99% of the time, since it gets the work done without slow down. However, Windows 10 is also installed, more like a vanity purpose. My Desktop also has a Win8.1 installed which is going untouched for long now. The point is, even if we switches to Linux..almost completely, Windows OS is needed for some use or another. Great.
By the way, today I got the replacement laptop since the older one was declared DoA by HP. Thanks for that, HP. 🙂

Hi Bhishmar and others,
It looked like the BIOS failures (updating to F.24.A) may be related to not updating Intel Management Engine Firmware prior to updating BIOS. It is better, may be to not touch these packages.
Updating Intel Management interface looks almost as risky as updating BIOS. Command line pops up and shows copying percentage.

May be AMD is better. At least, they don't seems to embed hidden os we call as "management engine". http://www.zdnet.com/article/minix-intels-hidden-in-chip-operating-system/
