I've done this many times, no problem. Use a USB cord in the USB slot in the laptop. Sometimes daily. A few days ago I was messing around with my laptop, deleting cache, thought I was cleaning up (its pretty new, only a couple of months old). I'm not very computer savvy. Anyway, now when I plug in my DSLR I can't find it on the computer. I hear the tone so I know its connected. And I hear the tone when I disconnect it. I just can't find it. I'm wondering if I inadvertently changed a setting somewhere?

What is your camera ? You may delete its driver. Honestly I do not connect my cameras (all of them) directly to my computers. I pull storage cards out of cameras and plug to computers to transfer photos/videos.

Regards.

Its a rather old Canon Rebel XT. I've always done it directly to the laptop. Its card doesn't fit the slot on this laptop so I'll have to see if I have a card reader and whether that'll work.

It just seems so inexplicable since I was doing this regularly up until a few days ago and I still hear the tone indicating the laptop 'sees' the camera...I just can't lol. That's why I'm sure I've done something with settings when I was fooling around in the laptop doing a disk cleanup.

I found a card reader, but the same thing is still happening. I can hear the tone on the computer that it sees the card reader (with the camera's card in it). Same thing as when I plug the camera in. But I just cannot find it anywhere in order to view/upload the pictures. So frustrating!
