Hello,

I was trying to update my drivers through the HP product website for my laptop, It seems that there are a bunch of updates that went out in 2018 for windows version 1803.

However, HP support assistant (latest version) did not detect them.

When I tried to check my device manager and see what driver versions I had it seems like the installed drivers had dates going back to 2017. But some of them had version numbers higher than the ones with 2018 dates. This seems strange.

so my question is, how do I tell which version is the latest driver version? should I look at the driver date? version number? should I just let HPSA automatically update? should I rely on windows updates?

Thanks,

Hazem.

Thank you for being a part of HP Forums,

It'll be an honor to guide you through the steps needed to identify your concern and/or address your query.

There's something you should know about updates before we proceed:

  • Not all updates needs to be installed on your device, unless you have issues on your device that requires a repair via the update.
  • Updates are only released when a certain device/part requires a fix or a change needs to be implemented.
  • Most parts will not receive an update for years together, nothing to worry about.

You can check for all the latest drivers from the HP website: Click here to access it.

Thanks for your reply, I was updating drivers as I noticed the laptop gets hotter than usual for just watching videos or browsing. I thought this might be caused by some incompatibility due to windows updates.

I'm not sure if it was the reason but I updated BIOS, Intel thermal frameweork and display adapters. I believe the laptop is behaving normal again. maybe it was just an anomaly though. Here's what I did in order,

  1. made sure no more windows updates are found.
  2. went to HP drivers website and compared version numbers, that's when I found drivers newer than the ones from windows updates.
  3. installed the new drivers then started updating drivers through device managers ( strange that I still found some later versions).

For now it seems that everything is running normal and I'll keep an eye after each windows update in case something happens again.

Thank you very much,

Hazem.
