Well you can use the desktop Ryzen apu drivers too. I was able to install them from the inf file through device manager the inf file actually shows Vega 8. They don'y appear to crash, but I could NOT use vulkan anymore and Doom would will only work on this machine in Vulkan mode. So back to the Acer driver. This is pure bs, companies not caring about customers. AMD has pulled this crap before. I bought an RX480 and there no windows 8.1 drivers for it three weeks, later I got emailed a link for a beta driver. I returned card and bought an Nvidia 1070. AMD always says go to OEM for drivers because HP would optimize for the machnie. Why? HP is too cheap to do that. All we get is the generic AMD drivers. THis is my second Ryzen 360 The first one had a bad hdd out of box. The second one I could not reset and the whole OS was glitchy. I had to download win 10 to usb and install from scratch. Pretty crappy companies here, obviously neither HP or AMD care about cutomer service. HP can't even get the BIOS posted right.....Don't know what else, Guess I was lucky the second one works fairly well now. Oh by the way I cut my finger on the case edge installing 16gb of ram. Hey wait!! That what it is you need to do, make a blood sacrifice............

Slight tangent while we wait for driver news:

 

 

Have any of you folks connected a usb-c eGPU (external graphics card enclosure) to the x360 Ryzen model right hand usb-c slot? If so what did you use and were there any compatibility issues? Did it work perfectly or did something awful happen like an instant driver related hard crash?

 

Have any of you optomistically tried connecting a VR headset to this model and if so was it playable? (I think I know the answer to this one but can't hurt to see if someone has tried). Any compatibility issues with the various hookups?

My bad, it has to be usb-c with thunderbolt support, and this ryzen x360 just has a normal usb-c port so it's not possible to  ignore the onboard graphics and using a thunderbolt egpu. The spectre range has usb-c with thunderbolt. Sharing in case the info help anyone. Sorry for the noise.

Sorry to disappoint you but if you had a LG, AUO or BOE display right beside your Chi Mei you'd be able to see the difference. You can't force your screen to do what it can't do by design. Your solution may make it more pallatable for you, that's it, and it's nothing more than that. I don't blame you for trying to ease the pain. It is HP's fault to sell laptops with below standard displays. Chi Mei's are lowest grade and for a good reason. This is the result of HP's no compromise cost cutting and you happened to be a victim of that. All laptops they had sent out for reviews were with the other displays. Once it was done the door was wide open to do whatever HP wanted. Nasty and unfair bait and switch tactics.

Well I have a Samsung and a Dell laptop - both with much brighter screens (and as they were more expensive devices this is not a surprise).

 

In terms of colour, the Chi Mei is now much closer to those screens with the build I have documented elsewhere on the forum (using Lenovo drivers for the HP Envy X360). I don't doubt that the other screens may be better, or have a better blue balance, but my point is that the very poor colours I had on my screen could (and have) be remedied with better use of the drivers and the changing of the colour profile.

 

I used to sit in front of my laptop and get irritated every day. Since my last successful attempt to re-configure the driver and the colours I no longer think about the screen as being 'off-colour' or 'yellow' like I used to. Know I can see the colours are basically right. I'd like a brighter screen, and I'd like the more modern AMD drivers that are out there. The brightness is now a strategy by manufacturers to extend battery life and use cheaper screens I guess, the drivers is an apalling lack of care by AMD / HP for their customers. My next laptop will be an Intel...

Hi,

 

Be careful when using later drivers. I have tried the latest Lenovo drivers on my X360. Whilst it finally gave access to the colour controls in the AMD software - saturation is one I have been after - it crashed very frequently.

 

I rolled back to the older Lenovo drivers and my machine has been rock steady again. Simply a stable machine beats one with a few minor extra features.

 

To install a stable machine you must first wipe the drivers using the AMD utility, and then install using the Device Manager, finally you load the AMD software by manual installation.

 

One final catch, Microsoft will try to overwrite your drivers. Either use Windows 10 Pro to block this, or find a useful Microsoft utility called - wushowhide - and you can 'hide' the update and it will not bother you again.
