I have 2 new HP laptops with no DVD drives. I purchased a HIAWAY external DVD Drive to use disk for software installation. I connect the drive to USB port but it will not execute the auto play or install the program. It shows up on the file explorer at drivve 😧 but if you click it brings up a pop up saying needs to know what to do with storage devices. It will play a music CD so something is working. Help this is ugly I bought Turbo Tax disk to use and cannot install it otherwise too will be my guess.

@deaconmark

Sounds like you have Autoplay set to open File Explorer for external devices.

You need to change that to Take no action -- thus when you insert a disk, nothing will happen and you then choose the disk folder and run the setup file from the disk.

Here's a thread on how to change the settings:  How to manage AutoPlay settings for USB drives and Memory cards on Windows 10 | Windows Central
