I just purchased and new laptop and new 2tb Seagate backup plus slim external hardrive and I can not get the laptop to even acknowledge that I connected the hardrive. The light on the hardrive comes on showing that it has power but that is all. I tried both USB ports also.

Can your machine "see" other attached devices such as a flash drive (USB stick) ?

While Win10 SHOULD simply "see" the drive and allow you to use it, what you can try is downloading and installing this backup software from Seagate to see if that makes a difference: https://www.seagate.com/support/external-hard-drives/portable-hard-drives/backup-plus-mac-usm/seagat...
