Hello,
I just bought the HP specter x360, 2017 model and I tried connecting my HP 27ea monitor to it via a USB-C to mini DisplayPort adapter. The problem is that my laptop won't detect the monitor. I tried using both the USB-C ports on the laptop but I got the same result.
I searched the forums and apparently many people had the the same problem but I couldn't find a solution. Hence, I thought I'd ask a question that has my specific laptop model which I use. Any help would be appreciated.
The USB-C to Mini Display Port cable that I am using can be found on this link - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZU1TXHA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hope to get this solved soon as its a major hassle and shame that such a simple thing is causing such problems.
Thanks!

Hi @TalhaK,
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues with the external display not working on your HP notebook. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
After reviewing your post, I did go through the product specification of your notebook as well as the monitor and found couple of things which are as below:
Notebook External port: (2 Thunderbolt™ 3 (Data Transfer up to 40 Gb/s, Power Delivery, DP1.2, HP Sleep and Charge); 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (HP Sleep and Charge); 1 headphone/microphone combo). For more details, please go through the Maintenance and Service guide of your notebook:
HP 27ea 27-inch IPS Display -Product specifications Clearly shows that the port available on the Monitor are 1 VGA and 2 HDMI
There is no Display port available on the Monitor. So I would like to know how are you trying to connect this monitor to the laptop.
Instead of using USB-C to Mini Display Port, I would suggest here is to HP USB-C to HDMI Adapter or HP USB-C to VGA Adapter which is supported by this monitor.
For more details, please go through this link: HP PCs, Tablets and Accessories - Using USB Type-C to Transfer Power and Data
I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help.
Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,
It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

Hey @Jeet_Singh,
I had a HDMI to Mini DisplayPort wire from before because my previous laptop had that.
I bought a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter and used that to connect my laptop on the USB-C end and the other end had to Mini DisplayPort connected to it.
Hope this clears the confusion.

Hi @TalhaK,
Thank you for replying,
As I understand you are using HP 27es monitor and this does not have a Mini display port. Hence I would request you to go through the link provided in the previous post and try to use a HP USB-C to HDMI Adapter or HP USB-C to VGA Adapter which is supported by this monitor.
I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

I know the monitor doesn't have a Mini DisplayPort.
The HDMI to Mini DisplayPort wire that I have had from before is what I am using.
The HDMI end of the wire is plugged into the the monitor (HP 27ea) and the other end, which is a Mini DisplayPort, is being plugged into the adapter. The adapter, which is a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort, is then plugged into the USB-C port on the laptop.
Hopefully, you now understand the situation.

Hi @TalhaK,
Thank you for the detailed information,
I'd suggest this could be an issue with the compatibility of the adapter/Converter. In order to bypass I would suggest here is to take it to a friend/neighbour/local tech and check with a different possible HP USB-C to HDMI adapter and check if that works.
If it works, this clearly shows that it's an issue with the adapter/converter being the problem.
Please respond to this post with the results of the troubleshooting for further assistance.
Eagerly waiting for your response!
