Microsoft Windows 11

~5 yr old OMEN, started acting up ~6 mo., one hard drive failed, replaced it, worked great. Now the other two drives are acting up. With SMART indicating error code. In 30+ years of owning computers I've only had one hard drive failure, now three on one machine in six months. can the computer itself be driving the problem?

Hi @Gary987654321

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

It sounds like you’ve had a rough time with your OMEN! Three hard drive failures in such a short span is definitely unusual, especially with your experience. It’s possible that the issue could be with the computer itself. Here are some factors to consider:

Power Supply Issues: If the power supply is delivering inconsistent voltage, it can affect the drives. A failing power supply might cause stress on the drives, leading to failures.

Motherboard Problems: A malfunctioning motherboard can also cause issues with drive connections or power delivery. Check for any signs of physical damage or burnt components.

Cooling Problems: Overheating can lead to drive failure. Make sure your cooling system is working properly and that there’s no dust buildup blocking airflow.

Connection Issues: Sometimes, loose or damaged cables can cause drive errors. Check all connections and consider replacing the SATA cables.

Firmware Issues: Ensure that the drives and the motherboard BIOS are running the latest firmware. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues.

SMART Errors: The SMART error code you received indicates that the drives are likely at risk. It’s crucial to back up any important data immediately and consider replacing the failing drives.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
