I have the Probook 640 G5 laptop and it apparently has a fingerprint sensor - it can be seen to the right of the touchpad. However, I can't get it working on Windows 10x64. I looked throughout the BIOS and can't see the option to turn it off/on (no "Biometrics" or "Fingerprint" options anywhere in the BIOS). Windows device manager doesn't show any "Fingerprint" or "biometrics" or "Validity" devices either. I've tried installing the Synaptics VFS7552 WBF Touch Fingerprint Driver which HP Drivers page has identified for my laptop, but the installer just "blinks" and nothing happens.

The fingerprint reader is an option on this model series (118 models at this check). That is, not every computer in this model series has an actual fingerprint sensor. It might only have the little "plug" that looks remarkably (and unfortunately) like the real thing.
To see all occurrences of the relevant information, search the guide for "fingerprint"
Example: Location, part numbers, assembly, replacement procedures.
In general, unless something is radically wrong, the Device Manager would indicate the true state of the device: No device listed = no device installed in the computer. It is possible, though rare, that the sensor (reader) might fail.
Places to check include and may not be limited to:
If you purchased the computer from HP, check the configurable options purchased with the computer. This information might be included in the order confirmation email or the shipping email sent to you when the product was sent to your home / office.
Check to see what the Device Manager can tell you.
Control Panel > icon view > Device Manager
Windows key + X > M
Open / Look for category Biometric devices
Fingerprint device, if the manager can find it, may be listed as "FP sensor" under various names or "Synaptics ... Sensor"
Use PartSurfer with your machine's serial number to check what is included.
Reminder: Do not post your serial number on the community.
If the detailed data is available and the computer includes a fingerprint sensor, it might be listed as 'FINGERPRINT RDR".
- Select your Country
- Need Help? Tab Self help > find and open the User Guide and FAQ
Use Part Surfer:
- Enter your device Product Number , Serial Number, or Part Number in the Quick Search box
- HINT: To see a system-specific list, replace the Product Number with your device Serial Number
- Items accompanied by a tiny box in the Add-to-Cart column are available for purchase
- N/A means the part is not carried / offered for purchase by HP.
Parts marked as available for purchase might be available from: HP Parts Store
Use your search engine to find the part number at your favorite online store.
For those reading:
If you believe (or know) your model does have a fingerprint reader / sensor,
If the Device Manager > Biometrics confirms the fingerprint reader exists,
If the fingerprint reader meets the system and device ID requirements ,

The fingerprint reader driver for this model is rated for Windows Version 1909 (most recent Windows version at this writing). Note that the actual driver in the support website will likely change (be updated) over time.
Reminder: Before you set up your fingerprints, set up Windows logon PIN.

Yeah, that's the case. I never thought this is a dummy fingerprint scanner that just plugs the hole in the case. Since I entered the serial number in the Drivers lookup page and it offered me the fingerprint sensor driver, I thought it should be there.
But, using the PartSurfer (with the serial#), I can confirm that there is no fingerprint scanner on this laptop. There is a "SPS-FINGERPRINT DUMMY" listed though 🙂
