HP build 16299
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have never hand any problems with my function keys before, but now my brightness and volume keys won't work (f2,3, 5,7, & 8 [probably all of them, but those are the only ones I use]). My laptop did just go through an update, but I have never had a problem with updates before. Can you please help? I don't know much about computers, but I can follow directions.

Thank you!

Hi Sam,

Either you can do a system restore to previously known good point before the update, if it is the update that caused the issue:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03327545#AbT4

Or you could check if action keys are enabled in BIOS:

Let me know how it goes.

Thank you Visruth! The link to the BIOS info was VERY helpful!!! For some reason I can't use my action keys when they are enabled now, but by disabling them in the BIOS I can use them with the fn key, so thank you!

You're welcome Sam.

It needs Hotkey Driver I suppose. It might be there in the HP support page of your model. You could try to install it for action keys.
