Paul resolved my hard drive issue on the HP ENVY 17t-by400, so I was able to install Windows 11; however, I don't have a mouse. In investigating the issue, I get a code 51: HID Device can't start because it is waiting on another device or devices.

I've tried removing the device and allowing Windows to reinstall it, disabling the device and re-enabling it, but none of that worked. The entire error code is listed below.

"Device ACPI/ELAN0723/4&1355ddef&0 had a problem starting. (NOTE: slashes are backslashes)

Driver Name: hidi2c.inf

Class GUID: (745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da)

Service: hidi2c

Problem: 0x33

Problem Status: 0x0

Log Name: Microsoft-Windows-Kernal-PnP/Device Configuration"

I have no clue what all of this means, so any help would be most welcome and appreciated. Thank you.

Hi:

Did you install the latest driver for the touchpad?

If all else fails, try using the HP cloud recovery tool to make a bootable USB recovery drive that will factory reset the drive to its 'out of the box' condition.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this.

You can download the software from the Microsoft Store:

Hi again Paul. Thank you for responding. I'm sure that your suggested solution is the way to go because you are excellent at this sort of thing; however, I attempted to delete my post because as I was trying to get a screenshot of the error, amazingly the TouchPad started functioning.

I still believe that your proposed solution was the right way to go, so I will tag it as the accepted solution. Have a wonderful holiday, and thank you again for your expertise.

You're very welcome.

Glad to know your notebook is running fine again.

I do recommend you make and save that recovery drive because when your notebook is 5 years old, HP will withdraw support for the cloud recovery tool image for your notebook and you will only be able to clean install Windows like you did the other day.

You enjoy the rest of your Labor Day too!

Regards,

Paul
