Hello,

I have a problem.  My laptop cannot update its BIOS firmware.

Laptop: 17-cp2536ng
Prod. ID: 9V9F4EA#ABD
SN: "Please do not include the serial number or any sensitive information"

I tried with windows update and also tried instaling firmware driver, but it says it is not compatible.
Everytime I restart the laptop it says it needs to update/restart.

- Current BIOS version: Insyde F.14 (09-Nov-2023)
- Windows Update installs "HP Inc. Firmware Driver Update (15.26.0.0)" successfully
- Device Manager then shows a warning on "System Firmware" (Code 14)
- After restart, the message "System updates are underway" is displayed briefly
- The system boots back into Windows normally
- BIOS remains on version F.14
- No BIOS update progress screen is shown
- HP BIOS update package downloaded from HP Support reports that the BIOS update is not compatible with this system

Hardware ID reported by System Firmware:

UEFI\RES_{12a78c52-ccb4-4229-b97a-cca6d26057fe}&REV_F140000

Please if aynone can help me.

Thank you for your time

Aljaz

Hi @Alajaz11

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

We acknowledge the concern regarding the BIOS update not applying on your HP 17‑cp2536ng. The update process is completing at the Windows level but not flashing the BIOS, which is why the version remains at F.14.

The following recommended steps will help ensure compatibility and allow the BIOS update to proceed correctly.

Verify Correct BIOS Package

Ensures the update file matches your product ID and ROM family.

Visit HP Drivers & Downloads → Enter product ID 9V9F4EA#ABD

Under BIOS, confirm the listed update matches your system model

Download only the BIOS file specific to 17‑cp2536ng

Prepare System Environment

Clears temporary conflicts that block firmware flashing.

Open HP App → Diagnose & Fix

Run Diagnose & Fix to resolve background issues

Ensure Windows Updates are fully installed

Restart the laptop before retrying

Clear Temporary Storage

Frees reserved update space required for BIOS flashing.

Go to Settings → System → Storage → Temporary Files

Select System created Windows Error Reporting files

Select Temporary files and Delivery Optimization files

Click Remove files and restart

Run BIOS Update Manually

Executes the BIOS installer directly with administrator rights.

Save the BIOS update file to C:\

Right‑click the file → Run as administrator

Follow on‑screen instructions with AC power connected

Create USB BIOS Recovery Drive (Optional)

Fallback Option

Provides a recovery path if the update continues to fail.

Use HP BIOS Update and Recovery utility

Launch the utility from HP Support page

Create a USB recovery drive

Boot from USB if BIOS update does not apply

By confirming the correct BIOS package, preparing the environment, and running the update manually, the firmware should apply successfully. If the update still does not progress, the USB BIOS recovery option ensures you can safely re‑flash the BIOS.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hello Mr. Hawks_Eye,

Thank you for the answer.

The issue occurs on all 20 identical HP 17-cp2536ng units. BIOS remains at F.14 after successful update attempts. Could you please confirm whether there is a known issue with BIOS package F.14 or Windows Update firmware detection for this model?

With one laptop I tried BIOS update via USB key and is now BIOS bricked - says it cannot find the right files or they are corrupted - does not go to windows anymore. Is there anywhere the F.14 file that I can repair this?

Again thank you for your support.

With kind regards

Aljaz
