HP Pavilion Prod No. Z9F58EA#A
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After installing the last Windows 10 update (15 November 2017), a window popped up saying: Compatability Assistant, This app can't run on this PC,  HP Accelerometer does not run on this version of windows, an update may be available. I did a web search for the problem and the solution seemed to be to uninstall HP 3D Driveguard then download and install the latest version (with appropriate restarts).

I've done that but the problem still exists. I don't know if I am finding the latest version - the one I've installed is Product version: 6.0.41.1 and File version 4.0.100.1189. I downloaded it from http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81001-81500/sp81142.exe.

The notebook came with Windows 10 (64-bit) installed as well as HP 3D Driveguard and, as far as I am aware, everything was fine until that last *****Windows 10 update.

Any help would be much appreciated especially since I'm forever carting my notebook around the countryside.

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that the HP accelerometer does not run on your HP Pavilion - 15-au174sa. You have tried installing the latest version and the issue persists. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.

I did some research and suggest you to download and run this version to make the HP accelerometer work: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp82501-83000/sp82755.exe

Hope this helps. Keep me posted. Good luck! 🙂

Hi Mkazi,

Thanks for the help and the compliments. Let me set the stage. I am 73 years old and the last program I wrote was in fortran 77 (probably before you were born??).

I uninstalled HP 3D Driveguard again and restarted my PC, downloaded SP82755 as you suggested and saved to c:\SWSETUP\SP82755 (it created a new directory of that name). I then went to the SP82755 level of SWSETUP directory and ran HPSetup.exe. Nothing seemed to happen. I restarted my computer and went to Control Panel> uninstall a program. There was no sign of HP 3D Driveguard in the list of pograms available. When I fire up my PC I'm not now getting the original pop-up saying that "This app can't run on this PC ......" but now I don't know if that is because it is not installed or is running O.K. but I can't see it.

Sorry for making a fuss but I do travel about a fair amount with my laptop and when I bought the PC,  the salesman convinced me that an HP with  Driveguard was "just what you need". I feel a bit let down if I can't get it to work although I am sure that the problem is with Windows 10 and not HP.

Regards,

You're welcome. 🙂

I truly appreciate your efforts.

We could attempt a Microsoft push button reset. This repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This can be done either while preserving your personal data and customizations, or removing all your personal data.

Hope this works out. Keep me posted. Thanks again!

Hi again,

Sorry for the delay, I've just had the nice man from BT Openreach installing a new master box and cableing which then required a reset of my router but I'm up and running again (at the same speed as before!).

I'm a bit reluctant to try a microsoft push button reset due to my lack of knowledge about the inner workings of a modern computer - it seems to me that I could end up with more problems than the DriveGuard not working. I do have an HP Recovery file on a memory stick which I made when I bought the computer but is there a risk of it all going wrong ending with an (expensive) trip to PC World?

Is there a way to manually park the hard drive? If I could do that I think I'd be quite happy.

Regards

I have tried everything.  NOTHING  WORKS.  It is time to give the hunk of junk to a homeless person, after I take a sledge hammer to it (don't want to knowingly put anyone else through this), and buy a different brand.  NOTHING  YOU SUGGEST WORKS>   FIX THIS PROBLEM ...  YOU HAVE HAD MONTHS, YET DONE NOTHING REMOTELY HELPFUL.

Success! I downloaded version SP83846 of HP 3D Driveguard as suggested, and installed it (WITHOUT first un-installing the problem version). So far I have not had that annoying pop-up "This app won't run on this version of Windows".

Many thanks.
