What is/was the intended purpose of HP AC Power Control utility? There is no clear explanation anywhere for what it is used.

AC Power Control allows you to schedule a peak shift time period in which only the battery is used, even when connected to AC Power. When the battery charge level reaches (or drops below) the Low Battery Level, AC Power will be used. NOTE: During the peak shift time period, the computer will not charge the battery.AC Power Control allows you to schedule a peak shift time period in which only the battery is used, even when connected to AC Power. Hello

Imagine if you power on 100.000 computer at the same time. this is a peak of current required from those computer.

Even for few thousand notebook , it could be a problem is the peak would be higher then maximum power supported by main power switch of a company (I don't know if I wrote in a good english , I hope you understand).

Those was a requirement for Japan , if I well remeber.

so with this utility you can define an interval of time where the notebook will not use AC power. you have to set a different start time and end time , by group of users.

example, you have 10000 users. you may set for all of them start time 8:30AM , then End Time to a different value, grouping users by your preferred quantity, example I create 100 gourp of 100 users. I set  End time to a different minute per group. after 100 minutes all notebooks will get the power.

Is it really useful ? I don't know. never used.

Your idea is interesting but this utility seems to be user configurable and not pushable by admin. Not sure if costs of battery would outweight the price for electricity.

Hello

it's not about cost. It's about to avoid a peak of current.

There is another version , but I don't remember if it's compatibile with HP System software manager for unattended installation.

Does it need to be open to work or it configures BIOS and runs independently of OS?
