Hello,
My backlit keyboard does not light up. I have an HP Beats Special Edition 15-p030nr Notebook with Win 10 installed on it. I have done a hard reset by removing the battery and draining the power when I restart it, the problem persists.
Are there any solutions? I am not too techy, mind you. Are there drivers or software ii need to run or what, please? Thank you.
T.

Hi,
Thank you for the response. Yes, I have tried all the troubleshooting solutions, but the problem persists. The backlit was working well a couple of weeks ago, then it just stops.
I have downloaded the latest drivers, and I did the hard reset part, by removing the battery and reinserting it to no avail,
How can I bring it back to factory default? I have backed up my content, and I will not have a problem resorting to this, if it will rectify the problem, please. Thank you.
Regards
Tongz

It looks like you were interacting with @Barachiel, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,

I reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend:
If your notebook computer has a backlit keyboard, there is a special key on the keyboard to turn the light on and off. Use the back light in dim lighting situations.
The following notebook computer series contain models that have backlit keyboards.
-
HP Envy notebook computers
-
HP Spectre notebook computers
-
HP Pavilion dv series notebook computers (dv4, dv5, dv6, dv7)
To check whether your particular model has a backlit keyboard, check the F5 key to see if the backlit keyboard key is present.
F5 key - Backlit keyboard key
Other notebook computers
For other older notebook computers with a backlit keyboard, try one of the following methods depending on your model, to turn the backlit keyboard on or off.
-
If the spacebar has a keyboard icon on the left side, press and hold the Function key (Fn) and then tap the spacebarone time.
-
Press the F12 key.
-
Press the F5 key.
-
Press the special key dedicated to turning the back light on and off.
Dedicated key for the keyboard back light
If you've tried the above and it doesn't work, I recommend updating the BIOS and Chipset drivers: Click here to find and install the same.
And if the issue persists, please reply back with information on whether or not, the backlit worked before and if the keyboard still works fine apart from the backlit.
Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

I have a
HP Beats Special Edition 15-p099nr Notebook PC
I installed a new hard drive. I have never had any issues with this laptop. Until now.
I installed Windows 10 Directly from a USB drive and let it do whatever default setting it wanted with the exception of privacy settings. and ever since the FN +function keys no longer work IN WINDOWS only. If I go into the BIOS they work perfectly fine.
I have tried everything on every single Support forum. Removed and reinstalled all drivers for keyboards, changed Language settings, installed different Language and removed all others then reinstall English. nothing works.
Again THIS ONLY HAPPENEDs IN WINDOW'S, in anything else keyboard works 100% properly.

@AlanJ2
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: ( do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating )
To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.
Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.
- To open the HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon
.
- Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
- Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
- Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
- Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
- Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
And, also run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629
- Note: You can also try reinstalling the Windows Operating system once again.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
