I'm having the same issue. It started happening about a week ago or so. So frustrating.

So, the new battery fixed the problem. All is well.

1. Try and check whether your fan is functioning because overheating makes a machine to shutdown regularly
2. There might be a virus in you pc programmed to shut down your laptop after a given period
3. In your power option your laptop maybe set to shutdown after sometime check that under power options and adjust appropriately

Thanks for your reply Johnlennon. My chromebook only works now when it is plugged in. As soon as I unplug it, it goes black. I have bought a replacement battery. I hope that works.  😕

i didnt think it had this setting?  where is it?  also dont think it has a fan or get viruses.
