Product: HP Compaq 6910p Notebook PC
Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista
No firewire/DV Camera recognition when plugged into Laptop: Simply put, my Panasonic NV-GS5 plugged into the HP Compaq 6910p, with a 4 pin to 4 pin firewrire cable, prompts no sound, device recognition, or anything at all from windows. I checked device manager, and the drivers for the 1394 port are working/updated fine. So I am left stumped on how to progress from here. I just want to transfer some footage from my DV camera. If anyone can help/knows the problem I am dealing with, please do reply, and let me know what I should do.

Your video camera is NOT a PnP device, you need to ask Panasonic to get its driver OR at least a software to h=get it going.
Regards.

There isn't even an "Unknown device" in Device Manager, no sound from windows, and no updated hardware changes.
Even on a separate computer, the camera is recognised fine (or at minimum is picked up by the device) without any drivers as it doesn't need any...
And no, the unknown devices aren't related to any firewire ports (Quicklaunch button and some 3d Manager).
