HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 13-ay0359ng

Dear community,

Since quite a while my touchpad and the touchscreen of my HP envy x360 are not working reliable. Often after standby and sometimes after booting neither the touchpad nor the touchscreen work. Rarely they do. The device manager shows the error message for two I2C HID devices that they can´t start up.

I already tried a repair installation of windows to reset the drivers. I am running Windows 11 Pro 24H2 Build 26100.4652. Does anybody have a solution?

I hope to use this notebook longer because besides this it´s still good and I like the slim design. Thank you for your support and best regards

Patrick

Hi @patsch89

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for laying that out so clearly—it’s genuinely frustrating when such core features like the touchpad and touchscreen become unreliable, especially on a sleek device you still enjoy using.

Let’s walk through a few steps that can help restore functionality and clear those I2C HID device errors.

🧰 Step 1: Uninstall and Reinstall I2C HID Devices

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Human Interface Devices.
  3. Right-click each I2C HID Device showing an error and choose Uninstall device.
  4. Check Delete the driver software for this device if prompted.
  5. Restart your laptop—Windows should reinstall the drivers automatically.

If they don’t reinstall, you can manually download them from your model’s HP driver page.

🔄 Step 2: Install Intel Serial IO and Chipset Drivers

These drivers manage communication between your CPU and I2C devices:

🧪 Step 3: Disable Fast Startup

Fast Startup can interfere with device initialization:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  2. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  3. Uncheck Turn on fast startup.
  4. Save changes and restart.

🧼 Step 4: Adjust Power Management Settings

  1. In Device Manager, right-click each I2C HID Device.
  2. Go to Properties > Power Management tab.
  3. Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
  4. Apply and restart.

🧠 Step 5: Update BIOS (if available)

Sometimes BIOS updates include fixes for I2C device initialization:

  • Visit the HP BIOS update page.
  • Download the latest BIOS for your model and follow the instructions carefully.

Let me know how it goes or if you'd like help locating a specific driver version. You’ve already shown great persistence—let’s get your touch features back in action so you can keep enjoying that slim design without the hiccups!
