Hi,

I'm using this new PC, everything is ok, but the fan NEVER stop.

I mean, also when the PC is idle, no activity, in a cold environment, screen is off...

I would expect (as in my previous notebook) that the fan would rest if the temperature is not too hot while here it sems that it just never stops.

The noise is absolutely always the same (it is not a matter of increasing noise or speed) but I would like to know if there is some setting (which I haven't found yet) to obtain a quiet solution.

Thank you very much

Hello manageri,

The processor fan is designed to run constantly. Even in a cooler environment, the processor can reach alarming temperatures. A processor can have a longer life if a lower temperature is maintained.

If you find the fan spinning distracting, you may have options to reduce the speed in which it spins. 'Reduce Fan Noise' and 'Why Computers Generate Heat, for your information.

Regards.

Hey managerri,

The fan of the notebook always spinning constantly, could be for many different reasons. I have included the document 'Fan is Noisy and Spins Constantly, PC is Warmer than Normal'. I know this describes more than what is happening with your notebook, but it does have some very useful steps for you to flow.

Please let me know if these steps stop the fan from spinning constantly, thank you.

thank you Lil_Lisa27

I had already found that section, but it doesn't seem to apply. Everything is updated and I'm not having any warm problem. I keep the PC on at night, in a cold room, screen off after 3 minutes, almost NO activity at all, cold outside... but the little noise (little, constant, uniform) never stop...is it normal? It wasn't so on my previous PC...

thank you anyway

You have given that solution twice now even though they said the first solution has no impact on the problem!!! My solution would be that your fan bearings are wearing out ! And you would have to change the fan before it stops working !! I am an Electrical Engineer and I have the same problem with mine !!

We have an employee with the same problem on this PC.  Battery only lasts 30 minutes because the fan is running at full speed.  It is 6 months old and this condition did not occur when I commissioned it.  Therefore these "solutions" are not appropriate.

HP - please research this condition

Same problem here. Changed the power options to "power saver" and it stopped.

FYI, there is a BIOS setting, "Fan Always On," which is 'Enabled' by default.

I would rather have the machine live as long as possible; so I recommend leaving on. However, if you insist, access the BIOS from Windows 10 via "Start > [Restart] (immediately begin pressing f10 until you see setup utility and likely hear beeps.)" Use arrow keys to navigate to "System Configuration" tab; press Enter to change; f10 to save and exit.
