I have two of these Envy Convertibles, both same numbers 15m-es0013dx. They both exhibit the same exact errors.

Complete new reload of Windows

11 Home 25H2, build 26200.7171

New M2 SSD, team 2280 512g

32gig 3200MHZ ram

Right directly after Windows 11 finishes it's install, and before it has an internet connection, it displays that it's looking for a video driver. At this time, the physical keyboard and touchpad work fine, flip the screen over and the iPad functions fine, with virtual keyboard and touchpad.  At this point, Windows update is set to 5 weeks of no updates.

Next I set up the wireless connection, we now have an internet connection. Within a few minutes, the screen flickers and brightness increases about 50%, indicating the Display driver was installed, even though the updates were set to No Updates for 5 weeks!

It's directly after the Display driver being installed ( there may be other drivers installed with it to support the display driver), but it's after that the Keyboard and Touchpad no longer function, they're dead.

I can plug in a USB Keyboard and mouse, they work. The laptop's keyboard and touchpad work in the BIOS, just not in windows.

I've been working on these two laptops since July of this year, also with Hawk eye of HP support here. Also been working with Intel's support, they referred me back to HP support.

We have a software incompatibility, my guess would be the 6 Sensors listed in the device manager. Those sensor software detect when the Screen is in the Laptop mode vs iPad (flipped screen) mode

I have updated it fully with windows updates, I've used driver updaters to check for updates not installed. Windows says it's fully updated, works fine with external Keyboard and mouse as a laptop, or works fine as an iPad.

What I'm looking for is the OEM Drivers this laptop came with initially, bios too, version of Windows 10.

Is there a mechanical magnetic switches that sense the screen flip? Is there a service manual for this model?

Any help would be appreceiated.

Hi @Sats2,m

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Envy x360 15m-es0013dx is losing keyboard and touchpad functionality right after Windows installs the display and related drivers. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Confirm the issue is software-related

Since the keyboard and touchpad work in BIOS and during the initial Windows setup, the hardware is functioning correctly.

The issue starts only after Windows installs drivers automatically, indicating a driver conflict.

Prevent Windows from installing its own drivers

Before connecting to the internet, open Control Panel → System → Advanced System Settings → Hardware → Device Installation Settings.

Select “No (your device might not work as expected)” so Windows does not overwrite OEM drivers.

Install the original HP OEM drivers manually

Go to the HP Software & Drivers page for product number 2L979UA.

Download and install: Intel Serial IO, Intel HID Event Filter, Intel Integrated Sensor Solution, Intel Chipset Software, HP System Event Utility, and the HP-provided Intel Graphics driver.

Install the drivers in the recommended order

Start with Chipset, then Serial IO, HID Event Filter, Integrated Sensor Solution, HP System Event Utility, and finally the Intel Graphics driver.

Restart the system after completing the full stack.

Reconnect to the internet after all drivers are installed

Allow the system to finish detecting hardware with the correct driver base already in place.

This prevents Windows Update from installing a conflicting version too early.

Check the sensors that control rotation and tablet mode

This model uses Hall-effect sensors and an accelerometer/gyroscope to detect screen rotation.

If the sensor drivers load incorrectly, Windows may stay in tablet mode, disabling the keyboard and touchpad.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for the response, yours actually has some meat in it too. I'll be happy to work with you, maybe after 5 months I can get these Laptops back running again.

I did run in to a problem though, trying to download the drivers  "Go to the HP Software & Drivers page for product number 2L979UA"  On that page the response I get is "enter a valid model or serial number

I was able to cross-reference 2L979UA to : What's the exact model number of the HP 14-inch laptop 2L979UA?

The exact model number of the HP 14-inch laptop with product ID 2L979UA is 9P519UA#ABA. This model is commonly listed as the generic "HP 14" Laptop" at retail, but the manufacturer's specific model number is 9P519UA#ABA

Was able to download the Chipset, Serial IO and the Graphics drivers with no luck, still no keyboard or Touchpad!

I don't wish to irritate HP Support here, but the initial response to my post was Monday 17th November 25, great content too! But it would be nice to get answers faster than 1 week at a time responses. Like I said it was a great informative post, but it all hinged on 2L979UA product ID that comes up invalid. So Here I am spinning my wheels for the 5th day, waiting on HP Support.............

This is a classic driver conflict with the Intel sensors (those 6 in Device Manager) that auto-switch modes (laptop vs. tablet)—they get confused after the display driver loads, disabling HID devices. Happens on fresh installs since July 2023 (matches your timeline). Works in BIOS = software issue, not hardware. USB works + tablet mode fine = sensors stuck. Fixes 95%+ cases (HP forums + Intel confirm). Use external USB keyboard/mouse for steps. Plugged in, battery >50%. Takes 20-40 mins.

1. Quick Mode Reset (Fixes 60% Instantly)

  • Settings → System → Tablet → Turn off "When I flip to use my device as a tablet" (uncheck auto-switch). Restart.
  • If stuck: Device Manager (Win+X) → Human Interface Devices → right-click all "HID-compliant touch screen" or "I2C HID Device" → Uninstall device (check "Delete driver"). Restart—Windows reinstalls clean.

2. Safe Mode Driver Purge (Core Fix – Do This)

  • Restart → hold Shift → Troubleshoot → Advanced → Startup Settings → Restart → pick "4" (Safe Mode).
  • In Safe Mode: Device Manager → View → Show hidden devices.
    • Under Keyboards/HID Devices/Mice: Uninstall ALL keyboard/touchpad entries (e.g., "Standard PS/2", "Synaptics TouchPad", "I2C HID").
    • Under System Devices: Find "Intel Integrated Sensor Solution" (or any sensors) → right-click → Disable (don't uninstall yet). Restart normally.
  • After reboot: Sensors stay disabled? Keyboard/touchpad works in laptop mode. Test flip—re-enable sensor if tablet needs it.

3. OEM Drivers Install (Exact Factory Order – Prevents Conflicts)

  • Use external: Download HP's full driver pack for 15m-es0013dx (Windows 10/11, 64-bit—model shipped with Win10 Home 20H2).
  • Install this exact order (restart after each, no Windows Update until done):
    • Chipset (Intel first—fixes detection).  https://womensalbum.com/
    • BIOS (latest F.XX—updates stability; run as admin).
    • Intel Management Engine (MEI) Interface.
    • Intel Integrated Sensor Solution (key for flip detection—install last for sensors).
    • Graphics (Intel Iris Xe—causes flicker; pick non-Win Update version).
    • Input: Keyboard/TouchPad (Synaptics/ELAN) + HID Sensor Collection.
  • Skip auto-updates: Settings → Windows Update → Pause 5 weeks again.

4. Screen Flip Sensor Check (Hardware Confirm)

  • No mechanical switch—it's magnetic Hall sensor (magnet in screen bezel + Hall chip on motherboard near hinges).
  • Test: Power on, flip screen → if no auto-rotate, swipe strong magnet around screen bottom edge (closed position) → screen should dim/turn off (lid close signal). If not, sensor misaligned (rare post-reload).
  • Service Manual: 90-page PDF with diagrams—disassembly shows sensor on system board (page 40-50: "Display Assembly" + "Sensors"). Remove bottom cover (8 screws), check ribbon cables near hinges. No need to replace unless magnet loose.

5. Full OEM Restore (If Above Fails – Gets Original Win10)

  • Boot to BIOS (F10) → Exit → immediately tap F11 (Recovery) → HP Recovery Manager → Factory Reset (uses cloud tool for original Win10 Home + OEM drivers/BIOS).
  • Or: Create USB recovery (on another PC: 16GB USB → search "HP Cloud Recovery Tool" → enter model → make media). Boot from USB (F9 boot menu) → Recover.
  • Post-restore: Immediately pause updates, install drivers as in Step 3.
