Following Windows Update (KB5005565), I was unable to use fingerprint login. There was no error message, just no functionality. This has happened before following updates.

I deleted Synaptics WBDI SGX from Device Manager, including driver software, and restarted to reinstall. No joy. I tried to set up the sensor in Windows Settings but when asked to touch the sensor, nothing was displayed (there's usually a progress graphic). After a while Windows told me "Sorry, something went wrong". Evidently it is not detecting the sensor.

I've uninstalled the Windows Update but this has not fixed the problem.

Having tried everything (adding another admin user, registry hacks, driver hacks, and a whole bottle of acetone - only kidding), I finally found the solution.
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Press the start button and immediately press and hold Esc.
3. Press F10 for BIOS and navigate to the Security tab.
4. Select Fingerprint Reset on Reboot and change to Yes.
5. Exit and restart, accept the cautions.

6. Set up Windows Hello Fingerprint.
