I obtained an older laptop from a relative. I tried to change the WiFi card with an Intel 5100 that I found on another thread  for this model that is on the whitelist. The Intel 5100 Half Mini PCIe WiFi card was not recognized by the BIOS and boot was halted. Can anyone tell me why this card was not recognized? Can I obtain an Intel 5100 that will work?

HP G62 Notebook PC:
Model # G62-143CL

Product # WA906UA#ABA

Product Configuration ID # 049D100000202710000020000

BIOS version  F.37 (3 May 2011)

Thank you in advance for any assistance!

Your notebook has a BIOS whitelist which blocks the installation of any other model Wi-Fi adapter from working other than the one that came with your notebook.

There is nothing you can do to get the Intel 5100 to work.

Below is the link to the parts list for your notebook:

HP PartSurfer

The only card you can install is the Atheros AR9285 802.11 b/g/n (1x1) Wi-Fi adapter and it must have the HP part number on the 'Replace with HP Spare' label or it will not work.

If you want better Wi-Fi, you will have to use a dual band USB Wi-Fi adapter.
