I have been having issues with my HP since this morning. Note, this laptop has now become my lifeline because I have been using it for a job search since I will end up homeless next month if I do not succeed in my job search.
Now to the issues:
Upon logging in, it was running slow. It stood on a black blank screen before taking me into log in.
I put my password in, log in and despite password being correct , it takes a little while to log in. But it eventually logs in.
Everything starts up and appears normal. I scroll to the bottom of the task bar to open it and the task bar will not come up despite scrolling across it. Instead, there’s a blue circle loading. It’s not letting me open folders on my desktop and my browser is on the tool bar. 🤦🏻♀️
I hard reset twice with no luck. Upon opening the Task Manager, it will take awhile to open and it will state that it’s unresponsive. I was able to get in however closing the app I was told made no difference either. I’m beyond frustrated to the point of crying since this laptop is my lifeline. I’m exhausting all options. The reason I haven’t had it fixed by a Tech is because I currently don’t have a job so money is tight.
Im willing to follow any steps to see if it could possibly work.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post you are having issues related to your HP notebook. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?
Did this happen after a recent Windows update or Software update?
Have you tried to check for any updates either using Windows update or using HP Support Assistant?
Did you try to run any test on the computer from F2?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
If the issue started recently after a Windows update, I would suggest you try these steps here:
It’s a known issue with an update from Microsoft.
You can follow the below workaround to fix the issue.
1. Press the Windows and R key together to open the run command box.
2. Type" msconfig" and press enter.
3. Go to the services tab and Uncheck or disable App Readiness. Refer to this image:
4. Click on Apply and click on OK.
5. Restart your computer.
For further assistance please follow this thread: http://hp.care/2xaYTp4 on HP forums which is authored by an expert and accepted as a solution. This should do the trick for you.
If the issue still persists, I would suggest you try these steps here:
If you have previously disabled App Readiness
- Boot the PC
- Click Start and type Services
- Open desktop app Services and find App Readiness
- Open the service and set Startup type to Manual
- Click Apply and close the window
- Download and install HP Image Enhancement for System Logon - http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81965.exe
- Reboot PC
If you have not disabled App Readiness
- Boot the PC
- Wait 15-20 minutes for the boot process to complete and desktop to load
- Once on desktop, Download and install HP Image Enhancement for System Logon - http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81965.exe
- Reboot PC
Alternatively, I would suggest here is to follow the steps suggested in the support document - HP Notebook PCs - Computer Starts but Screen Remains Blank (Windows 10, 😎
I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

I did try the first option with no luck. I press the windows and R to pull up the command prompt box and a couple times it told me it wasn’t responding. After that, it’s not doing anything- just staying on the laptop wallpaper. As much as I’d love to do the other steps, I can’t access start since it is in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen that isn’t loading every time I try to pull up the tool bar. 🤦🏻♀️
I did not initiate an update but I do know it was ready for one. It shut off during an update in the middle of the night when it went dead. I regret not plugging it in.

Thank you for replying,
After reviewing your post thoroughly, I see you have mentioned in your post that the computers shuts down during the update. Don't worry as I have few other steps which should help you resolve this issue.
Have you checked if the laptop shuts down in Bios?
Boot the computer into the Bios screen and check if it shuts down.
1. Turn off your computer
2. Make sure you have connected the power cable
3. Turn on your notebook, as it is starting press the F10 button repeatedly
Once you are in the BIOS, leave the computer in the Bios screen for a while and check if it stays ON or does it shuts down. If the laptop shuts down even in the Bios it is likely a hardware failure.
Alternatively, In such issues where the computer randomly shuts down it's always better to capture an error message with the report of why windows is crashing via a Blue screen,
However, since you haven’t captured the error code or message, as the blue screen hasn't appeared, I would request you to follow the below steps to capture and reply back with the error message/code to identify the issue and find a permanent fix:
- In Windows, search for and open View advanced system settings.
- In the Advanced tab, under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.
- Under System Failure, remove the check mark next to automatically restart, and then click OK.
- Restart the computer to apply the change.
- The computer no longer restarts automatically when a blue screen error occurs.
For more details: click here
However, if the computer shuts down and the lights on both the power button and the charger port turns off,
you may need to try with an alternate power adapter and reseat the battery before you try using it again
Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.
Eagerly waiting for your response!

Thanks for replying. Appreciate you trying the steps previously suggested by @Jeet_singh. Currently, he is out of office but don't you worry, I'll take it further from here.
Let's try these steps to reset the computer back to the factory settings -
1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F11 once for System Recovery.
4) Choose the Keyboard Layout.
5) Click on Troubleshoot.
6) Go to Recovery Manager and click on System Recovery.
Note : Back-up all your data as System Recovery will delete everything that you had saved or installed on the computer.
Hope this help!
Keep me posted.
