I'm no fan of pop up ads and also value my privacy to the extent in which I have that control. I installed DuckDuckGo on my fairly new HP Laptop and those ads are constantly popping up all over the place! Slows down my progress; pages don't load.

This makes sense now.
DuckDuckGo is a search engine primarily. DuckDuckGo is not a separate browser for a PC with Windows. They also have apps for smartphones, browser for smartphones and browser extensions. The browser extensions is not meant for IE, as far as I can see.
What you show is from Internet Explorer . IE is a legacy browser. Even Microsoft top employees claim that >> https://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-security-chief-ie-is-not-a-browser-so-stop-using-it-as-your-...
What you see is kind of normal for the sites nowadays. These are 3rd party adds and 3rd party trackers from various companies such as Google and many others. These are nasty but can be blocked.
I strongly recommend you use Firefox and install the add-ons I suggested previously to remove these adds when opening certain pages. For IE, you can also use some things known as tracking protection lists but they are basic.
I suggest you also block these - the Web will look better
- For Internet Explorer - you can visit www.iegallery.com , scroll down to Tracking Protection Lists. You can add "EasyList Standard" and "EasyPrivacy" + "Stop Google Tracking" lists to block nasty ads and internet trackers. The IEGALLERY website is Microsoft owned and the lists are public. Once applied, these lists will work in Internet Explorer and in EDGE.
- For Firefox browser, you can visit https://addons.mozilla.org
and search for and install UBlock Origin and Disconnect addons to block nasty ads and internet trackers. Once installed, you need to open the UBlock Origin extension if you want to make optimizations and add additional filters and protections.
- For Google Chrome browser, you can visit https://chrome.google.com/webstore
and search for and install UBlock Origin and Disconnect addons to block nasty ads and internet trackers
- For Opera browser, you can visit https://addons.opera.com
and search for and install UBlock Origin and Disconnect addons to block nasty ads and internet trackers

Hello,
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Community.
- Please, clarify where these ads are ? Are they in the browser, while in some page, while on all pages
or the ads are not browser related but they appear even when a browser is not running ?
If you value online privacy, your best bet would be the Firefox browser - free and open-source browser which is highly customizable and has plenty of add-ons and options to use. Extensions such as UBlock Origin, Disconnect are highly needed. For Firefox browser, you can visit https://addons.mozilla.org
and download them from there
- Firefox extra-privacy adjustments >> https://restoreprivacy.com/firefox-privacy/
For even more privacy needed, consider the Tor browser.
Looking forward to your reply and clarifications.

Thank you for responding! Let's start with YAHOO page - it's awful. On my home laptop - the pop ups appear on the main yahoo page as well as any of their links; if i click on an article they're flashing on the sidebar as well.
I have duckduckgo installed on my desktop PC at work-no pop up ads on Yahoo and the 'ad' spot is actually whited out with a 😞 face on it....
ads do not appear when the browser is not running nor are they browser related. random ads. the page won't move til all the ads are populated 😞

Can you please take a picture using a camera/smartphone and post it back here ?
Can you please take a video and upload it somewhere, and then give a link to see ?

Do the issues with Yahoo only appear with other browsers, as well ?
Any other page affected ?

Good morning IT_WinSec,
Thanks ever so much for the detailed information! I've sent this to myself and I'll have my son in law work on this task for me.
It will be a blessing to no longer see those annoying 3rd party ads!
Have a fantastic day and a safe/enjoyable holiday weekend!
Best,
Karen
