HP Pavilion x2 detachable 10-n000na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Really frustrating that the Keyboard and touchscreen is not working.  The computer was purchased with a lower version of windows (Windows 8.1), but updates to 10 have affected its use. This laptop is used by my kids as a starter PC, but am not sure it is a good advert for HP

Hi @PrintsCharmin

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the frustration with your HP Pavilion x2 detachable keyboard and touchscreen not working. It can be particularly annoying when updates disrupt functionality, especially when you’re depending on the laptop for your kids' use. I’ll walk you through some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue.

1. Check if the Keyboard is Properly Attached

Since your HP Pavilion x2 is a detachable 2-in-1 laptop, the keyboard might not be working if it’s not properly attached to the tablet section or if there’s a problem with the connection.

  • Reattach the Keyboard: Detach and reattach the keyboard to make sure it's securely connected to the device. Some devices have physical connectors (like pins or magnetic connections) that need to line up properly.
  • Clean Connectors: Check the connectors (both on the keyboard and the tablet part) for dust or dirt, as this can sometimes interfere with the connection.

2. Check the Functionality of the Touchscreen

If the touchscreen isn't responding, it might be either a software issue or something related to hardware:

Reboot the Device: A simple restart can sometimes fix touch input issues by refreshing the system.

Check if the Touchscreen is Disabled: In some cases, the touchscreen can be disabled in the settings by accident.

On Windows 10:

  1. Right-click the Start Menu and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Human Interface Devices section.
  3. Look for a device named HID-compliant touch screen.
  4. If it’s disabled, right-click it and select Enable.

3. Check for Driver Issues

Both the keyboard and the touchscreen rely on drivers to function correctly. After upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, there could be compatibility issues with the drivers.

Reinstall the Keyboard and Touchscreen Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager: Right-click the Start Menu and select Device Manager.
  2. Keyboard Driver:
    • Expand the Keyboards section.
    • Right-click the keyboard driver and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
  3. Touchscreen Driver:
    • Expand the Human Interface Devices section.
    • Right-click HID-compliant touch screen and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart the laptop. Windows should reinstall the touch screen driver.

Update Drivers Manually

If the automatic update doesn’t fix the issue, you can try to manually download and install the latest drivers from HP’s support website.

  • Go to the HP Support Website: Enter your laptop's model number (HP Pavilion x2) and download the latest keyboard and touchscreen drivers for Windows 10.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks Rachel

I have certainly tried some of these suggestions - I will try to go through the ones I have not done as yet.

fyi, I was struggling to locate the drivers on the HP website when I last tried.
