HP Spectre x360 13.5 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ef1000 RCTO Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

I am trying to program the programmable key on my Spectre laptop (F12 key, looks like 3 overlapping squares).

I have downloaded HP Programmable Key app from the Windows Store. When I try to set the application for the key to open, I receive the following pop-up error: 'Could not fetch installed application list, please make sure hotkey service is running or contact System Administrator'. And when I check Hp Programmable key in my services it don't shows to me. My laptop supports this function but tell me how to use it.

Windows and all apps from the store are completely up-to-date.

Thanks for your help.

Hi @Azaan5

It doesn't support it; the F12 key must be pre-programmed at the factory. Only laptops in the business line allow you to program that key.

The business line allows you to install the following driver: “HP Hotkey Support - UWP.” Without that driver, you cannot program the key yourself.

Here is a short list of the business models supported by the controller

Hi I saw your reply but what is thus stupid thing u are adding this key on keyboards and then saying you cannot use this thing. Pls solve this issue. And also i posted another issue on community and your team was unable to solve it.

Thanks.

There's no solution for that; the key is there because it's factory-programmed, solely to indicate in this case that it's a programmed key, but it can't be programmed by the user. There's no solution for that, The solution is what I explained to you.

You can contact HP support directly, but they won't be able to help you.

As you can see in the image, they are already programmed, and depending on the model, they perform different functions.
