The latest version of HP Support Assistant won't install on my Win 10 Home [6-year-old] laptop. Message that legacy version of Support Assistant needed, but I can't find a download link to such. HP Support Assistant was installed, but on a cleanup a year ago something deleted, so HP Support Assistant wasn't working.
Real issue is on booting up, message that primary internal battery is low & probably needs replacing. This model laptop has a removable battery under the hinge between keyboard & screen. That battery is showing 100% charged now, with power cord connected to home powerpoint. Is there a smaller battery inside the laptop?
Thanks for any help,
Ron

Sincere thanks for your help VikramTheGreat. I created a case with HP & phoned them. But they couldn't help & recommend purchase of a new HP laptop. So I've ordered a new laptop, but now found that the following allows the laptop to boot.
Enter BIOS > System Configuration > Boot Options. Here enabled Legacy Support, & Legacy Boot Order = Hard Drive, then USB, last 2 options not applicable. F10 to save BIOS changes.
Laptop now boots up normally. All I need now is RTC battery, which I presume I can order online.
I can't see where to award you Kudos or Thumbs Up, but you deserve a lot of Kudos for all the time you have spent on my case.

Hi @RonEvo,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand you want to install the Legacy version of the HP Support Assistant as the current one is not working on the Pc.
To download HP Support Assistant version 8.8.24.33, go to the HP Support website
Apart from the main battery, the Pc also comes with a CMOS battery which supports the PC to keep the date and time running even when the Pc is off.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks Vikram for your help.
OK, I need a new CMOS battery probably, so I'll google how to do that. I've renewed such in desktops, but have never taken the cover of this laptop.
I'd still like to install HP Support Assistant, for the future, & online recommends run it to check battery. The link you gave, 2nd section of the page, has Download HP Support Assistant That link took me to download version 9.39.... That's the latest version that ends setup with a statement I need legacy version. I couldn't find the link to download version 8.8.24.33 that you mention.
Looking forward to knowing your comments on above,
Ron

Hi @RonEvo,
Thank you for getting back. Sorry to hear about the trouble. Before we proceed any further, I would request you to please run an Extensive test on the Pc and see if any component fails or if all test passes or not.
Extensive Test -
1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
4. Click Extensive Test.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi VikramThe Great,
HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu is [version 1.26.0.0 - BIOS]:
1. Memory test
2. Storage tests (Extensive)
3. Hard Drive Check (Extensive)
4. Language
5. Exit
Test 1 then had Memory Quick Check as the only option. Took a bit over half an hour to check. Result = PASSED.
Test 2 "No storage installed" BTW I had a USB memory stick in a USB port in case I could save results there.
Test 3 "No Hard Drive installed. Please check that power & data cables are connected properly"
Menu 4 Language = English.
In BIOS the time & date is correct. Shows version F.57, BIOS vendor Insyde.
In BIOS > Configuration > Boot Options are:
USB Boot enabled; Secure boot enabled.
UEFI Boot Order [OS Boot Manager}:
USB Diskette on Key/USB Hard Drive
USB CD/DVD ROM drive [but my laptop doesn't have a CD or DVD drive]
! Network Adapter
Then Legacy Boot Order is
Notebook Hard Drive
USB Diskette ....[as above]
USB CD/DVD ROM drive
BTW the "hard drive" is a small eMMC
Thanks for any help you can give me. The laptop was working perfectly before I tried to update the BIOS, except for the Primary Battery low error 601 on startup.
Ron
