Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

I want to be able to choose when windows installs updates and restarts

Windows Update settings are "managed by my organisation" and is set to automatically downloading and restarting regardless of the documents I'm writing, game I'm playing etc.. which is a nuisance.

The organisation is set to "HP Inc." for some reason even though this is a personal machine and I have no connection with HP. After googling, I think it's HP Support Assistant that controls everything but doesn't allow me to change Windows Update settings.. They are perma-fixed to auto-update...

How do I go about gaining control over windows update?

- Hack the RegisteredOwner in the registry?

- Apply local policy to windows update?

- change a setting in HP Support Assistant?

- Uninstall HP Support Assistant?

Cheers

Ed

@egh312, Welcome to HP Support Community!

May I have the exact model name of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

To answer your question, the settings cannot be changed. However, you can uninstall the HP Support Assistant and continue with regular windows updates.

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!
