My HP ENVY 15-k061no Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)
Serial number [removed] is running Feature update Windows 10 version 1803.
HP Support Assistant very often runs for maybe 45 mins or more consuming 50% of my i7 processor, no disk activity. Apparently nothing happens except that the support assistant keeps running and running. End the end the program stops with no apparent result or output. It was running for 45 min this morning and now it is running again. This is not the correct behaviour, is it?
I have tried to stop the program, but it starts again the next time the pc is started. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program (but kept the settings) with no result.
What to do?

Hi @olhof,
Welcome to the forum.
Use the Task Manager to disable HP Support Assistant from your startup programs.
This way it will not start each time you log into Windows.
It will still be available for use whenever you need it.
To access Task Manager:
Ctrl+Alt+Del
Click on the Startup tab
Find HP Support Assistant in the list and highlight it with the cursor and then click on disable in the lower part of the window.
Also it is important to invoke HP Support Assistant and click on the settings icon in the upper bar of the HP Support Assistant window.
Select "check for updates , but let me choose which updates to download and install".
On the Help improve HP product quality by sharing your usage of HP and non-HP software and hardware, click on no.
Click on the save button and exit the Support Assistant.
That should keep the HPSA from being so busy in the background.

Thank you for a quick response. But......
HP Support Assistant is not in the startup tab (but it starts anyway), so it can't be dactivated.
The only HP software in the startup tab is HP Digital Imaging Monitor and hpwuSchd Application.

In the task manager, disable the hpwuSchd application and then restart your notebook to see if there is a difference.
hpwuSchd is an HP update application. It is not an application that is required by the OS.

I have disabled hpwuSchd, but it makes no difference. HP Support Asstant is running anyway even though the next planned check is first due in one week!
When I click the Support Assistant ikon (big questionmark) and starts HP Support Assistant it tells me that it is searching for updates and messages.
