There are two "flavors" of HP Support Assistant.

HP Support Assistant Software (located in Programs and Features) - likely version 8.8.x

and, for systems that can support the newer version,

HP Support Assistant Application (located in Settings > Apps > Apps and Features) - at this writing, likely 9.6.x

Application Flavor

Auto-update may not be possible.

If already set, Auto-Update might be impossible to switch off.

One or the other of these restrictions is unwanted by at least some of us.

(I very much dislike auto-update.)

The application does appear to check for Updates on a regular schedule and may implement those updates when you do open the application.   The application may be implementing updates as soon as the scheduled check is completed.

The application does allow you to perhaps change the schedule and possibly enact changes.

Open HP Support Assistant Application

Open the Dashboard

Click Software and Updates

Click Update Settings

Try to open the Drop down menu to adjust how / when updates are installed

Try to adjust the schedule

The use of the words "perhaps" and "possibly enact changes" are deliberate:

  • On the one system where I have the HPSA Application installed, I cannot change from Auto-Updates to any other setting.  I cannot change the schedule.
  • In other words, the system is defaulted / forced to auto-update.
  • Reloading the app has had no impact on the setup.

Unfortunately, the actual help files for HP Support Assistant (bottom of Dashboard > About HPSA) apparently still point to the software version (8.8,x).

So, try Setting the application to / away from auto-update in Update Settings.

Does not do what you want?

Send Feedback (button below the Settings wheel on the Dashboard).

I did so.  Will that help?  Maybe.
